Three four-game sweeps highlighted PacWest play during week two of the conference season. League favorites Point Loma and Westmont went 4-0, as did Biola who put up video game offensive numbers. Hawaii Pacific’s Jayden Gabrillo was brilliant during a 9-inning complete game, allowing just two hits and one run on 87 pitches.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jonny Tewinkle, Biola, Sr., OF, 6-2, 185, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
Jonny Tewinkle helped lead
Biola to a 4-0 sweep of Menlo by hitting .600 (.9-for-15) with eight runs scored and eight RBI. The Colorado Christian transfer also had a double, two home runs, two walks and was hit by a pitch. One of those home runs was a grand slam. Tewinkel did most of his damage in games three and four where he was 6-for-8 with seven RBI, including a 4-for-4 game in the series finale.

Hawaii Pacific’s Jayden Gabrillo threw a gem against Concordia during a 6-1 victory for the Sharks over the Golden Eagles. The sophomore threw a nine-inning complete game, the first to do so in the PacWest this year. Gabrillo allowed just two hits, one run, walked one and he struck out seven. He did so on a very efficient 87 pitches. It was just his fourth appearance of the season, and the first time that he has thrown more than 4.1 innings in a game.
TEAMS OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Teams of the Week are the
Point Loma Sea Lions and the Westmont Warriors. The Sea Lions took four games from Chaminade at home and the Warriors did the same against Vanguard.
Point Loma outscored the Silverswords 41-19 with victory totals of 8-0, 12-4, 7-6 and 14-9.
Derek Silva was impressive on the mound for the third week in a row with a six-inning scoreless performance, allowing four hits and fanning nine. Catcher
Mason Cook paced the offense with a .583 week (7-for-12) with a home run, 5 RBI and a walk-off single.
Westmont outscored the Lions 21-6 with final tallies of 3-1, 6-3, 9-2, and 3-0. The Warriors ran behind their pitching, especially from
Joey Rico, Hunter Hammond and
Matt Vazquez. Rico recorded a win in six innings of work, allowing one earned run, no walks and he fanned five. Vasquez went seven innings, allowed only one hit, no runs, four walks and five strikeouts. Hammond earned a win during six innings of work without allowing a run, on three hits.

On Wednesday, Vanguard goes to Azusa Pacific and on Friday-Saturday 4-game slates feature Concordia at Menlo, Westmont vs. Biola (swapping sites) and Fresno Pacific welcomes the No. 1 ranked team in the region, CSU Monterey Bay. Point Loma hosts Vanguard on Saturday, and Saturday-Sunday features Azusa Pacific at Chaminade and Jessup at Hawaii Pacific.

Jonny Tewinkle (see POW) with a ton of offense against Menlo. Knapp was 10-for-15 (.667) with three runs scored, a double, home run and nine RBI. The Eagles swung big bats over the four-game sweep with double-figure totals in runs (49) and hits (56) each game. 11 of those hits were doubles and BU also had six home runs.
