IRVINE, Calif. – PacWest teams lost twice in Saturday’s action at the NCAA Softball West Regional. Dixie State was eliminated from the regional and Azusa Pacific suffered its first loss.
No. 7 Dixie State finished its weather delayed elimination game with No. 6 UC San Diego to start the day. The game was resumed in the bottom of the fifth inning with UCSD up 2-1. In the sixth, the Trailblazers put runners on second and third with one out, but couldn’t bring the tying run home. In the seventh, the Trailblazers went down in order, ending their season at 36-15.
No. 3 Azusa Pacific faced No. 2 Central Washington for the second time in the championship round, falling 7-3. The Wildcats took a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning when
Cayla Broussard hit a two-run double to cut the deficit in half. CWU answered with a three-run home run in the fifth inning to seal the victory.
Azusa Pacific and Central Washington will meet again in the final game of the regional on Sunday at 11 a.m. The winner will advance to the West Super Regional, a best-of-three series against Humboldt State.
