Eagles Rally (Again) for Regional Win

Biola advances to the title round with a 7-6 victory over Western Washington. Concordia and Hawai`i Hilo's seasons come to a close with losses to East Bay and Dominguez Hills

Biola rallied back yet again for another 1-run victory, while PacWest champ Concordia suffered another heartbreaking 1-run loss. Hawaii Hilo saw their first trip to a regional since 2021 come to a close with a loss to CSU Dominguez Hills.

The 2026 seasons for Concordia and Hilo are a successful wrap while the Eagles now await the winner of CSU East Bay and Western Washington for a Saturday noon title game.

BIOLA 7, WESTERN WASHINGTON 6
For the second day in a row, the Biola Eagles turned the agony of defeat into the thrill of victory with a comeback win.

This time it was over Western Washington, 7-6. Mikayla Huskey hit a two-out single down the leftfield line to score two runs to walk it off for the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh for the improbable victory.

The Eagles trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth. Prior to that, that couldn’t scratch a hit off of Viking starter Alanna Wirtala. Biola had only one base runner through five, and that was via an error in the fourth inning.

But everything changed in the sixth. Biola got their first hit to lead off the inning from Kennadie Tsue, and Leilani Salgado and Alexa Sheard followed with the same to load the bases. Kendall Nakano then cleared the bags with a three-run double to cut the deficit to 5-3. Nakano wasn’t on second base long before she came home when Lillianna Garcia cleared the fences to tie it at 5-5.

Western Washington took the lead back in the top of the seventh, 6-5. But the Eagles went back to work in the bottom of the inning when Salgado doubled and Jackie Ibarra singled. With two outs, and the game on the line, Huskey got her second hit of the day and her biggest of the season to chase home Salgado and Ibarra for the game winner.

Salgado joined Huskey with two hits to lead the Eagles. DJ Symons came out of the bullpen to pitch 5.1 innings and picked up the win to improve to 20-15 on the season. For the Eagles, it was win #40 on the year as they improved to 40-21.

CSU EAST BAY 8, CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY IRVINE 7
In an elimination game between two nationally ranked teams, Concordia jumped out to an early lead at Pioneer Field.

The Golden Eagles scored five times in the bottom of the first and two more in the second to take a 7-3 lead. Caitlynn Campbell hit a grand slam in the first inning to erase a 3-0 CSUEB lead and Audrey Robles hit a two-run shot in the second.

But the Pioneers slowly came back. They scored once in the fourth, once in the fifth and three times in the sixth to take a 8-7 lead. They did so via the long ball with three home runs and they had 13 hits on the day.

CSUEB’s Jaidyn Gamble was tough out of the bullpen, pitching the final six innings and allowing only two earned runs, keeping CUI off the scoreboard for the final five innings.

Robles, Morgan Kneubuhler, Serena Valez, and Maddie Cortez had two hits each for CUI. The Golden Eagles, the PacWest regular season and tournament champs, finish the year at 43-17.

CSU DOMINGUEZ HILLS 10, HAWAI`I HILO 2
Hawai`i Hilo scored a run each in the first and second innings but the Toros were too much offensively on this day during a 10-2 game on Friday at CSU San Marcos.

The Vulcans scored the same way twice, with Rayna White getting on base and Mia Joaquin driving her home. But the Toros put up nine of their runs in the first two innings to make the catch up too much for the Vulcans, as they fell via mercy rule after five innings of play.

Hawai`i Hilo, who finished third in the PacWest, was making their sixth overall appearance at the NCAA Regional tournament and first since 2021. They wrapped the year at 26-19.
