SAN MARCOS, Calif.—Biola’s Cinderella season continued today, this time in the NCAA West Super Regional in San Marcos.
The No. 6 seeded Eagles allowed host CSU San Marcos one run in the first inning but after that scored in four of the seven stanzas to stun the Cougars 7-1.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow at 11 am. and again at 2 pm if CSU San Marcos wins. The victor of the series moves on the NCAA National Championships.
Biola starter
Kayla Bousquette gave up a run in the first inning to the Cougars, the No. 1 seed in the tournament. But that would be the only time CSU San Marcos would cross home plate the rest of the day with
Kayla Bousquette and
DJ Symons in the pitching circle.
Bousquette (18-5) would get the win with 4.2 innings of work, six hits and the one run. Symons would pitcher the final 2.1 innings with just two hits against her ledger and no runs. It was her seventh save of the season.
Prior to that, Biola scored once in the second and third innings, three times in the fifth and twice more in the seventh. It was
Ariana Banos' RBI-single in the second that got the Eagles on the board and
Kennadie Tsue hit a two-run double in the seventh. BU’s other scores were a combination of hits and Cougar errors. CSUSM uncharacteristically had five errors in the game.
After falling a few weeks ago in the PacWest title game, Biola has won four straight postseason games. They will take a 42-21 record into Friday, while the CSU San Marcos is now 53-10.
