2018 WOMEN'S SOCCER ALL-PACWEST TEAM
IRVINE, Calif. – With one of the most dominant PacWest regular-season performances in conference history complete, Point Loma earned all six special awards voted on by coaches around the conference.
Julia Glaser is the PacWest Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year after a record-breaking performance in her first year in the league.
Keagan Bolibol earned her fourth-career All-PacWest recognition and is the PacWest Defender of the Year.
Emma Hinson set records in her freshman season and is the PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year and the Freshman of the Year. In her first year as head coach at Point Loma,
Kristi Kiely was selected by her peers as the PacWest Coach of the Year.
Glaser earned two awards to go along with first-team recognition after helping Point Loma win the PacWest title as part of a 16-match unbeaten streak. Last year, PacWest Female Athlete of the Year Darian Murdock crushed the previous record with eight game-winning goals for Dixie State. However, Glaser rebroke that record with a week left in the season with her ninth game-winning goal of the season at Hawai`i Hilo in a 1-0 victory. The Sea Lions had eight 1-0 victories on the year and Glaser scored the goal in half of those matches. She finished the year with a PacWest-best 13 goals.
Bolibol played in nearly every minute of the regular season as she led one of the toughest defenses in PacWest history. The four-time All-PacWest honoree helped the Sea Lions go on an eight-match shutout streak as they recorded 14 shutouts in 17 matches to lead the nation in shutout percentage. The Sea Lions are currently ahead of the previous record of six goals allowed in a season with only four as they head into the postseason. The Sea Lions’ 14 shutouts also breaks the previous record of 12 that Point Loma set in 2015.
Hinson was recognized by PacWest coaches as the Freshman of the Year and the Goalkeeper of the Year after recording a 0.23 goals-against average, which is on pace to break the PacWest single-season record. The native of Portland, Ore. recorded 43 saves on the season and only allowed four goals in 1558 minutes of play. Hinson recorded 13 shutouts and a 91.5 save percentage to help make Point Loma’s defense one of the best in the nation.
Kiely was named the Sea Lions’ head coach in December of 2017 by Athletic Director
Ethan Hamilton, and since then, Kiely has helped Point Loma to one of its most successful seasons in program history. The Sea Lions dropped the season opener in overtime against the 2016 National Champion Western Washington, but did not lose another game for the rest of the regular season. The Sea Lions bounced back with a 10-match winning streak with wins over Cal State San Marcos, Biola and Fresno Pacific. They finished the regular season with a 15-1-1 record, which is the eighth best in the nation, earning the No. 4 seed in the NCAA West Regional.
Concordia’s
McKenna Carrillo was a first-team All-PacWest honoree, receiving conference honors for the fourth-consecutive year. Carrillo is the first Eagle in any sport to earn four All-PacWest recognitions. She finished her career with 16 goals, including three this season as she led the Eagles to nine wins. She is joined on the first team by her teammate
Kryssa Johnson.
Hawai`i Hilo finished in a tie for second place in the PacWest standings and had three first-team All-PacWest selections.
Lucy Maino and
Jodi Lillie from the Vulcans’ defense were named to the team along with
Tiera Arakawa, who recorded three goals and four assists on the season.
Sarah Jeffries and
Katelyn Penner from Biola were both first-team selections. Jeffries tallied six goals and five assists, while Penner had two goals and three assists in her freshman season. Along with the three award winners, Point Loma also had
Abbey Teagle, Bella Diaz and
Madelon Denbaugh on the first team. For Teagle, it is her second All-PacWest selection after she finished the regular season tied for the lead in assists with Diaz at six.
