IRVINE, Calif. – Chico State shutout Dixie State, 6-0, in five innings to win the first game of the NCAA West Super Regional in St. George on Thursday. The Trailblazers will need to win twice on Friday to advance to the College World Series.
Chico State had two RBI singles in the second inning, a two-run single in the third and a two-run home run in the fourth to produce the final margin.
Cambrie Hazel allowed all six runs in 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits and four walks. Dixie State managed just three hits and had four walks, leaving all seven runners on base.
The second game of the series is Friday at noon PT, with a third game at 2:30 PT if necessary.
