SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Point Loma won its first PacWest Championships title in program history with a 67-58 victory over Concordia in the final with the help of a 15-point second-half performance by
Daulton Hommes on Saturday in the Conlan Center.

Hommes, the PacWest Player of the Year, scored a game-high 19 points and helped the Sea Lions pull away in the second half by making 4 of 8 shots from the field in the half. PacWest Championships Most Outstanding Player
Preston Beverly added 16 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in the victory.
With the win, Point Loma improved to 26-4 on the season with a six-game winning streak. The Sea Lions will advance to the NCAA West Regional and will find out on Sunday if they will host the tournament as the No. 1 seed or travel to Lacey, Washington, as the No. 2 seed. Concordia drops to 23-10 on the season with the loss, but the Eagles are still in good position to advance to the NCAA West Regional. They will find out on Sunday’s NCAA Selection Show.
Neither team led by more than six points in the first 34 minutes of the game until Point Loma went on an 8-0 run that was sparked by lay-ups by
Ziggy Satterthwaite and
Sterling Somers gave the Sea Lions a 48-41 lead.
Concordia pulled back within one with three minutes left and a 3-pointer by
Jamel White two minutes later for the Eagles made the Sea Lions’ lead 58-55 with 1:23 left in the game. Point Loma ran an isolation play for Hommes on the baseline and he drove into the paint to make a short jumper.
After Point Loma got a stop, Concordia decided not to foul, needing a stop of its own to stay in the game. The Sea Lions drained time off the shot clock before Somers drove down the left side of the lane and made the lay-up that secure the win in the championship game.
Sattherthwaite finished the game with six points and 13 rebounds, while
Josh Rodriguez had four points and six rebounds as he was named to the all-tournament team.
Jamel White led Concordia’s offense with 17 points, and
Brian Chambers added 12 points in the second half.
Concordia won the first meeting between the tournament’s top-2 seeds during the regular season, beating Point Loma in overtime to become the first PacWest team to beat Point Loma. The Sea Lions evened the season series at home in the regular-season finale before winning the rubber match in the PacWest Championships. Point Loma is now 4-3 in program history in the PacWest Tournament.
