Familiar Foe Foils Point Loma's Playoff Run

BELLINGHAM, Wash-- Point Loma and Western Washington have been the two best women's soccer programs in the West Region for the last three years, but once again it was the Vikings getting the better end of an encounter with the Sea Lions as Western Washington earned the right to return to the NCAA West Regional finals with a 1-0 win over Point Loma on Saturday afternoon at Harrington Field.

Western Washington scored the only goal of Saturday's regional semifinal in the seventh minute and controlled possession for the majority of the contest as the Vikings held off every attack by the Sea Lions to earn the win. Point Loma finishes the season with a 13-2-2 record as the PacWest Co-Champions after making a third-consecutive trip to the NCAA Regional semifinals. Western Washington improves to 15-4-3 and will go on to face the winner of Seattle Pacific and Sonoma State.

Jenna Killman scored the only goal of the match for the Vikings. Point Loma tried to clear the ball out of the box, but the ball was kicked right into the knees of Grace Eversaul, who crossed the ball into the box for Killman, who scored the goal.

Western Washington took 16 shots compared to 10 for Point Loma, and the Vikings put 10 of those shots on goal, while Point Loma tallied three shots on goal. Bethany Arabe took three shots for the Sea Lions and one was on goal. Alana DiazHailey Clifford and Emma Thrapp each took two shots.

Point Loma has now won 12 or more matches in seven of the nine complete seasons that the Sea Lions have played as members of the PacWest, and for the third year in a row, they were the last remaining PacWest team in the NCAA West Regional.
