IRVINE, Calif. -- The PacWest Player of the Week are
Jandre van Wyk from Colorado Mesa and
Petra Ivankovic from Azusa Pacific.
On the men's side, Dallas Baptist entered the week undefeated, but ran into the PacWest’s two newest members, who spoiled the hot start to the season. Colorado Mesa handed Dallas Baptist its first loss with a 4-3 victory and then MSU Denver swept them 7-0.
Hawai`i Hilo wrapped up its trip to Southern California with wins against Concordia and Point Loma to go 3-1 during the trip. On Saturday, Azusa Pacific continued its undefeated start against PacWest teams by beating Concordia 6-1. At No. 1 singles,
Jakob Schnaitter defeated
Yassine Smiej 6-1, 6-4 in a battle of two of the top singles players in the PacWest so far this year.
For the women, Azusa Pacific and Concordia entered the week undefeated against PacWest teams, and they faced each other in Irvine on Friday. Azusa Pacific won that encounter 4-2 with
Anna Savchenko clinching the win at No.2 singles 7-6, 4-6, 6-1.
Dominican traveled to Colorado last week to face MSU Denver and Colorado Mesa as the first PacWest team to make the trip to Colorado. MSU Denver won the first match on Thursday 7-0 and then Colorado Mesa got a 5-2 win against Dominican on Friday.
Hawai`i Hilo is making its way through the Bay Area right now, starting with a 5-1 win against Dominican on Monday. Then on Tuesday, Academy of Art earned a 7-0 win against Hawai`i Hilo. The Vulcans will play against Fresno Pacific on Friday.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Van Wyk moved up in the lineup for the Mavericks in both singles and doubles to help Colorado Mesa secure a 4-3 win against previously-undefeated Dallas Baptist. In doubles, van Wyk partnered with
Steven Howe at No. 1 doubles to earn a 6-4 win. Then at No. 4 singles, the native of South Africa was the first to finish his match, racing to a 6-2, 6-4 win. The Mavericks eventually got the win as
Thiago Nejm clinched the victory at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Colorado Mesa now has a 6-5 record on the season.
WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Petra Ivankovic, Azusa Pacific

Ivankovic is undefeated this season in both singles and doubles playing in the No. 1 spot for both and has only dropped one set all year. The junior won both of her doubles sets last week alongside
Anna Savchenko at No. 1 doubles, 6-4 against Fresno Pacific and 6-3 against Concordia. In singles, Ivankovic defeated Fresno Pacific’s
Mariia Borodii 6-1, 7-5 in a 4-3 win for the Cougars. Then on Friday, Ivankovic lost her first set of the season in singles to
Rebekah Anderson. However, the Cougars’ veteran came from behind to preserve her undefeated record and win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to lead the Cougars to victory. Azusa Pacific is undefeated this year against PacWest opponents with four wins.
