SURPRiSE, ARIZ.—The top two seeds will meet in the PacWest title match on Friday when rivals Azusa Pacific and Biola take the court at 9 am at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Center.
The Cougars defeated Point Loma and the Eagles swept Hawaii Pacific to advance. In the longest match of the morning, Hawaii Hilo took out Fresno Pacific, 4-2.
It will be the third meeting of the season for the Eagles and Cougars, and they split those two matches.
#1 AZUSA PACIFIC 4, #4 POINT LOMA 1
Azusa Pacific advanced to the title match with a 4-1 victory over #4 seed Point Loma. The Cougars will be playing in their fifth straight Pacific West Conference title match, in their final opportunity, as they are moving to Division III next year.
Today, APU won the doubles point with 6-1 victories on courts one and three. In singles play,
David James Brownlee won 6-2, 6-2 on court three and
Soeren Grandke captured a win on the stadium court with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over
Stanislas Noel.
Point Loma earned a win on court four via
Marcos Alogo-Piqueras (6-2, 6-4), but at the same time the Cougars clinched the match on court five where
Joan Crespo won 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.
APU is now 20-4 and Point Loma moves to 8-11.
#2 BIOLA 4, HAWAII PACIFIC 0
The #2 seeded Eagles rolled into the championship match with a 4-0 win over Hawaii Pacific. It will be the first trip to the championship match for the Eagles in their 8-year PacWest tenure.
Biola won the doubles point and then claimed singles wins on court four (
Pol Masafret, 6-1, 6-4) and court three (
Adam Large, 6-3, 6-4).
Alejandro Flores Monteverde clinched the match on court two with a 6-3, 7-5 win to send the Eagles to the title match.
Biola is now 16-3 on the season, while the Sharks move to 14-5.
#4 HAWAII HILO, 4, #6 FRESNO PACIFIC 2
The Vulcans wrapped up the 2026 season with an impressive victory over Fresno Pacific, in a match that took over three hours.
The Sunbirds won the doubles point but Hawaii Hilo roared back in singles. After
Jordi Gonzalez picked up a point for FPU on court four (6-0, 6-4), the Vulcans won four marathon matches to climb back from a 2-0 deficit.
Jaime Paquet outlasted
Cedric Kaufmann on court one, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, and
Filippo Di Perna won on court two against
Emilio Seelbach, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3).
Tied at 2-2, UH Hilo won on the two back courts to take the match. On court five,
Willliam Norton won 6-1, 7-6 (7-2), and
Jaden Williams clinched on court six at 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
The Vulcans are now 6-9 overall, while the Sunbirds are 6-8.
