IRVINE, Calif. -- The PacWest's automatic qualifier for women's basketball is Hawai`i Pacific and for men's basketball Biola following a vote by the conference's athletic directors at the conclusion of the regular season.

The NCAA Regional Championships will feature the top six teams from the West Region and the RMAC with two of the spots going to automatic qualifiers. That means that Hawai`i Pacific and Black Hills State (the RMAC tournament champion) have already booked their spots in the postseason on the women's side, while the remaining four spots will go to at-large bids determined by the selection committee. On the men's side, Biola has guaranteed its first trip to the NCAA postseason along with RMAC champion Colorado Mesa.

Hawai`i Pacific earned its spot in the postseason with a perfect record, including a win over an NCAA Division I opponent in the season opener. The Sharks have earned the PacWest's automatic qualifier for the fourth year in a row, and are looking to finish what they started last year after earning the No. 1 seed in the West Regional before the tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19. The Sharks have thoroughly earned that No. 1 seed again this year with the only undefeated record in the region, the best record against teams with a record of .500 or better, and the best RPI in the region. The decision falls into the hands of the selection committee for where Hawai`i Pacific will land in the bracket and their decision will be made public in just two hours.

Biola came within a bank shot of reaching the NCAA West Regional last year, and got the job done this year. Playing against Point Loma again in the final Saturday before the regional tournament, Biola took its destiny into its own hands with a win over the Sea Lions on a neutral court to win the PacWest Southern California Pod title, beating the No. 3 team in the region. Biola was listed at No. 5 in the region in the final released rankings, but three of the four teams ahead of the Eagles suffered losses in the final week, giving Biola a chance to earn a higher seed.

For the Azusa Pacific, Point Loma and Fresno Pacific women's teams along with the Point Loma, Hawai`i Hilo and Fresno Pacific men's teams, their playoff hopes now lie in the hands of the selection committee as they battle with GNAC and RMAC schools for those four coveted playoff spots. The Azusa Pacific and Point Loma women were both in the playoff picture after having finished their regular seasons. The Point Loma men also sat comfortably at No. 3 in the regional rankings, and a loss on a neutral court to a regional ranked opponent shouldn't change that. Fresno Pacific and Hawai`i Hilo both were on the bubble going into the final week and Hawai`i Hilo added a split away from home against perennial power Chaminade, while Fresno Pacific added two more NCAA Division II wins to its resume against Humboldt State to finish 11-1 this season.

The final decisions will be announced on the NCAA Selection Show. The women's show will begin at 7 p.m. (Pacific) and the men's show will begin at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific).
