It was a wild week in PacWest women’s soccer action, with UH Hilo and Chaminade sweeping all visitors to the islands and Point Loma topping Fresno Pacific in a big early season showdown. The Vulcans scored 10 goals to win Team of the Week, Gracie Bowers (Chaminade) scored three times to gain Player of the Week and PLNU goalkeeper Julia Pinnell didn’t give up a goal to claim Defender of the Week

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chaminade’s Gracie Bowers, MF, 5-7, Sr., Murietta, Calif.
Gracie Bowers scored two of Chaminade’s three goals in the Silverswords’ 3-0 victory over Academy of Art, and then added another score in a 2-0 stop of Dominican. Both matches were at home in Honolulu as the ‘Swords improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the PacWest Conference. Bowers, who transferred to Chaminade after two years at California Baptist and another at Cal State Bakersfield, now has four goals and two assists on the season (10 points). The four goals is tied for third best in the PacWest.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma’s Julia Pinnell, GK, 5-8, Fr., Tigard, Ore.
Point Loma had just one match last week, but it was a big one against red hot Fresno Pacific. The Sea Lions responded with a 3-1 victory over the Sunbirds, and
Julia Pinnell didn’t give up a goal in 85 minutes of action and had four saves (she came out of the game before FPU scored its only goal). On the season, the freshman has 22 saves and a 6-1-2 record in the net.
HILO GOES GOAL CRAZY DURING PAIR OF HOME WINS : The PacWest Team of the Week is the
Hawai`i Hilo Vulcans. The No. 7 ranked Vulcans took out Dominican 3-1 and followed that up with a 7-0 whitewash of Academy of Art, the highest number of goals scored by a PacWest team this season. Three different goal scorers found the back of the net against the Penguins, with
Daelenn Tokunaga providing assists on two of the scores.
Filipaa Graneld had a goal and a assist in the same contest. Against the Urban Knights, SEVEN different players scored, including
Nanea Wall who also had two assists in the high scoring affair. The Vulcans have now outscored their opponents 23-3 this year while improving to 7-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the PacWest.
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Holy Names had just one match last week, rolling to a 4-0 non-conference win over Cal Maritime. The Hawks improved to 6-3 overall…
