Four Different Teams Share WSOC Weekly Awards

Concordia and Vanguard are the Team of the Week, Jessup's Lywandowsky has a hat trick and Hilo's Keller in a stopper in two Vulcan ties.

Vanguard and Concordia share Team of the Week honors after posting identical wins and scores against Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific. Lydia Keller wins her fourth Defender of the Week after giving up just one total goal in two matches. Karlee Lywandowsky had a hat trick in a 3-2 Jessup win over Westmont.

TEAM(s) OF THE WEEK: Concordia Golden Eagles and the Vanguard Lions                                               
Concordia and Vanguard share the Team of the Week after posting identical 2-1 wins over Chaminade and 3-0 victories over Hawaii Pacific. Ashley Grubert had a goal in each match for the Golden Eagles and Jennifer Alvarez did the same, plus added an assist. CUI defender Sloan De Torres led a defense that gave up just one goal and only four total shots. Vanguard keeper Grayton Normand had four saves and the shutout vs. the Sharks. The Lions and Golden Eagles now occupy the top two spots in the conference standings, with Vanguard at 3-1 (9 points) and Concordia at 2-0-1 (7 points).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jessup’s Karlee Lywandowsky, MF, Jr., 5-2, Brentwood, Calif.
Jessup’s Karlee Lywandowsky tallied just the second hat trick in the PacWest this season with all three goals in the Warriors’ 3-2 win over Westmont. She had just three shots on goal in the match and four shots total in the scoring outburst for the San Joaquin Delta College transfer. Lywandowsky scored on a penalty kick at 66:30 to tie the match at 1-1, and then just over a minute later scored again to help Jessup take the lead. After Westmont tied the match, the Brentwood native struck the game winner in the 82nd minute. It was Jessup’s first victory since 2024 and their first win over Westmont since 2015.

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Hawaii Hilo’s Lydia Keller, GK, Jr., 5-4, Idaho Falls, Idaho
Hawaii Hilo’s Lydia Keller helped her team fight to a pair of draws on the road last week. The Vulcans tied Point Loma 1-1 and Biola, 0-0. Coming into the week, those two opponents were the top two scoring sides in the PacWest. Keller totaled 11 saves in the two matches, and faced 20 shots against the Sea Lions. The Idaho native now has a 0.80 Goals Against Average, a 0.833 save percentage and has six shutouts.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Chaminade’s Sydney Bakritzes had 12 saves in their 2-1 loss to Vanguard, facing 29 shots…Azjah Tocher also had 12 saves for Hawaii Pacific against Concordia, and added  four more in just four minutes of action against Vanguard…Natalie Navarro had 11 saves for HPU against Vanguard…In Biola’s scoreless draw with Hilo, Eagle keeper Laura Brennan had eight saves in just 45 minutes of action.
Last week’s (Sept. 29) United Soccer Coaches Association West Region poll looks like this (the next poll comes out tomorrow, Oct. 6).  (1) Cal Poly Pomona (5-0-4), (2) Western Washington (5-1-3), (3) Simon Fraser (5-2-1), (4) Concordia (3-1-4), (5) Point Loma (4-2-4), (6) CSU Los Angeles (4-2-3), (7) UC Merced (5-0-3), (8) Stanislaus State (4-2-2), (9) Seattle Pacific (5-3-0), (10) CSU San Marcos (3-1-5). Nationally, Cal Poly Pomona is ranked second, CSU Los Angeles is 14th and Seattle Pacific checks in at No. 23.

LOOKING AHEAD: This week’s schedule kicks off on Wednesday with Biola at Dominican and Thursday features Point Loma at Jessup. Saturday’s full slate shows Biola at Jessup, Point Loma at Dominican, Chaminade at Hilo, Vanguard at Concordia and Westmont at Hawaii Pacific.
