PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo’s Teani Arakawa, F, 5-1, Soph., Makawao, Hawai`i
Vulcan sophomore
Teani Arakawa had a big week for
Hawai`i Hilo, helping her team remain unbeaten while also kicking off an all-important southern California swing. The Big Island native scored and added an assist in a 4-0 victory over Holy Names in Hilo, despite coming off the bench and playing just 42 total minutes. In La Mirada, the South Dakota State transfer scored twice before 21 minutes had elapsed off the clock to put the Vulcans ahead of the Eagles, 3-0. On the season, Arakawa is fourth on the high-scoring UH Hilo team with 12 points.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Chaminade’s Naomi Takata, GK, 5-5, Jr., Honolulu, Oahu
Junior goalkeeper
Naomi Takata has been a wall in the net for the resurgent
Chaminade Silverswords, most recently keeping Fresno Pacific and Azusa Pacific off the scoreboard. CUH topped the Sunbirds 2-0 on Oahu before beginning their southern California trip with a 0-0 deadlock at Azusa. Takata had two saves against FPU and three versus the Cougars, but more impressively she has allowed just one goal in the last 540 minutes and the one goal was on a penalty kick against Holy Names. She hasn't allowed a non-PK goal since Sept. 23 at Hilo which gives her a streak of 552:23 straight minutes of not allowing a score with a running clock.
