Biola led the way during a successful PacWest women’s soccer weekend with a pair of wins, outscoring their opponents, 7-1 The Eagles’ Briley Phelps led the offense with a pair of goals and two assists for Player of the Week. On defense, Dominican’s Michelle Salas Viniegra was even more impressive this week than last week when she won Defender of the Week to claim the certificate again.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Biola Eagles                                                                                                                       
Biola is the Team of the Week after a pair of decisive victories over two CCAA squads, both on the road. On Thursday, the Eagles took out CSU Dominguez Hills 2-0, behind the goalkeep work of Laura Brennan (2 saves) and goals from Hayden Gehring and Riley Brumfield. On Saturday at Fresno Pacific, BU erupted for five scores (5-1) against their former conference counterpart, after allowing the Sunbirds a goal early. Briley Phelps tallied two goals and two assists in the lopsided victory, helping the Eagles improve to 2-2 on the year.

Biola’s Briley Phelps was an offensive machine during the Eagles’ 5-1 win over Fresno Pacific on Saturday. The senior midfielder assisted on two goals in the first half as the Eagles overcame a 1-0 deficit, and then added two goals after intermission, including a converted penalty kick. Phelps fired at will in the match with 12 total shots, four of them on goal. The 2025 Second Team All-PacWest selection now has four goals in four matches this season with the two assists, leading the conference in goals, assists and points (10).

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Dominican’s Michelle Salas Viniegra, GK, Sr, 5-8, Rohnert Park, Calif.
Dominican’s Michelle Salas Viniegra goes back-to-back in pocketing Defender of the Week honors. This week, the senior goalkeeper had a huge hand in three scoreless efforts by the Penguin defense during a 2-0-1 week. She totaled 12 saves with no goals against, which includes eight saves in a 0-0 draw with Stanislaus State. She had two saves each in 1-0 shutouts of Menlo and San Francisco State, and now leads the PacWest in saves (20), save percentage (.952), goals against average (0.20) and shutouts (3), helping the Penguins get off to a 3-1-1 start.
 
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: PacWest teams went 6-7-6 last week in non-conference action, with four teams getting through the week without a loss—Dominican (2-0-1), Concordia (1-0-1), Biola (2-0) and Point Loma (0-0-2)…The Sea Lions tied Stanislaus State (1-1) and drew even with regional power Cal Poly Pomona (0-0)…Concordia’s Ashley Grubert had the score in a 1-0 win over CSU San Bernardino to give her three goals on the year…CUI goalkeeper Christina Sidoti had eight saves in the shutout against the Coyotes...Today's United Soccer Coaches Association West Region poll looks like this--(1) Cal Poly Pomona 3-0-1, (2) Concordia 3-0-1, (3) CSU Los Angeles 3-0-0, (4) Seattle Pacific 3-0-0, (5) Cal Poly Humboldt 2-1-1, (6) Dominican 3-1-0, (7) Point Loma 1-1-2, (8) Western Washington 1-1-1, (9) Simon Fraser 1-1-0, (10) Stanislaus State 1-1-1 

LOOKING AHEAD: 17 non-conference matches are on the slate this week, highlighted by a Thursday night match-up the top two regionally ranked teams in the west—Concordia at Cal Poly Pomona, both with 3-0-1 records. The Golden Eagles will also take on No. 21 ranked Simon Fraser to wrap up the week. Westmont will travel to Colorado to take on MSU Denver and Fort Lewis.
