INDIANAPOLIS--Point Loma sits on the top end of the first NCAA Division II West Region Women's Soccer Rankings, released today (Wednesday) by the national office.
The Sea Lions, currently sit in third place in the Pacific West Conference standings with a 5-3 mark (9-3-1 overall). Point Loma won a big match last week in Hilo that likely boosted them up the list, along with a solid early season non-conference schedule.
Concordia, the first place team in the PacWest, is in the No. 5 slot. The Golden Eagles defeated Hawaii Hilo on Monday, but that result is not reflected yet in this ranking. The Golden Eagles are 11-1-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the PacWest. They have not lost since their opening match of the season. The Vulcans, who were unbeaten prior to back-to-back losses to Point Loma and Concordia, are in the No. 6 spot at 10-2-1 and 6-2 in conferendce play.
In a few weeks, the top six teams in this ranking, which will include the conference champions from the PacWest, the CCAA and the GNAC, will advance to postseason play.
