SILVERSWORDS SPLIT WITH VIKINGS AND SAINTS: The PacWest Team of the Week is the CHAMINADE SILVERSWORDS. In a bizarre week that saw parity all across the landscape, Chaminade came the closest to posting a winning record. Playing on their new home field (Silversword Field) on Sand Island, Chaminade split with St. Martin’s (W 9-2, L 8-0) and did the same with Western Washington (W 6-5, L 4-2). In the 4-2 loss vs. WWU, Chaminade scored twice in the sixth to tie the game, and had the bases loaded when a line drive out ended the inning. The Vikings would ultimately score two in the ninth to win it. In the 6-5 victory, the ‘swords overcame a 3-0 deficit and would win it in the bottom of the sixth on Haley Hayakawa’s sacrifice fly. Taryn Fujioka and Chasity McKean both hit .400 on the week and Taylor Genera earned both victories in the pitcher’s circle (2-0) and had a 3.00 ERA.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: It was straight up even-steven for the five PacWest teams that played last week (Monday to Monday). Chaminade, Hawaii Hilo and Academy of Art went 2-2, while Biola and Hawaii Pacific were 1-1. Azusa Pacific, Concordia, Holy Names and Dominican were idle…Hawaii Hilo freshman outfielder Lexie Tilton hit .545 in the Vulcans’ games against St. Martin’s and Western Washington, scoring five times, driving in three runs and stealing three bases. Teammates Chloe Domingo and Jayda Favela both hit .417 (5-for-12) with Domingo driving home seven runs with three doubles…Hailey Yoshida of Hawaii Pacific shut down the Vikings (2-1) in seven innings of work, allowing five hits, one run, four walks and two strikeouts…Kamielle Powell had both pitching wins for Academy of Art and ended the week 2-1 with a 2.62 ERA…Idle Concordia is listed No. 16 in today’s NFCA Division II national poll.

THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: Chaminade continues their hosting of teams from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, facing off against Simon Fraser today. On Wednesday, Dominican travels to Cal State East Bay, and on Thursday Simon Fraser moves across the island to play Hawaii Pacific. PacWest play begins on Friday and Saturday with Biola at Chaminade, Dominican at Holy Names and Concordia at Hilo. This is all weather permitting of course, as the scheduled series between Academy of Art and Azusa Pacific has already been scrubbed and moved to mid March because of the rain forecast.
