All 12 of the teams are set for the upcoming PacWest Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships -- we just need to figure out the final seedings as we wind up the regular season this week. This year’s tournament will be played on the campus of Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, Thursday through Saturday, March 2-4. On the line for all the teams involved is an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals for the tourney champs. Here’s the latest update on the 2023 Road to Honolulu before everything is finalized this weekend for women's basketball.
Azusa Pacific (17-2) clinched the PacWest Women’s Basketball regular season title and the number one seed in the tournament this past week. The Cougars will draw a bye in the first round and start play in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the second seed and the second coveted bye is still up for grabs. Dominican (14-5) has a half-game edge over Concordia (13-5) and both teams still have a chance at that second seed as they finish up play this week. Dominican is at home against Academy of Art on Saturday, while Concordia finishes with two home games, facing Hawai`i Pacific Thursday and APU Saturday,
Meanwhile, Hawaii Pacific (12-6) is in the precarious position of finishing as high as third in the final seedings or as low as sixth, depending on the outcomes of this week’s games. The Sharks have the aforementioned big game at Concordia on Thursday while they complete their regular season schedule with another big game at Biola on Saturday.
Point Loma (12-7) and Biola (11-7) are currently holding down the five and six positions, respectively, but both also have a chance to move up in the seedings, as the results play out the rest of the week. The scenarios are endless, so they’ll be lots of scoreboard watching going on this week throughout the conference, for sure!
