Westmont and Point Loma Go 2-0 in Crossover Games

The Warriors sprint past CSU Dominguez Hills and CSU San Bernardino, led by the defense of Lisa Kiefer. Point Loma takes down Western Oregon and Northwest Nazarene behind the offense of Ruby Vlahov.

Westmont rolled to a pair of impressive victories last week against CCAA schools, including a 90-55 win over 2025 NCAA finalist CSU Dominguez Hills. The Warriors held the Toros and CSU San Bernardino to 50.5 points a game, led in part by Lisa Kiefer’s 24 rebounds and six blocks. Ruby Vlahov led Point Loma to two wins, averaging 22 points while shooting 69 percent.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Point Loma’s Ruby Vlahov, F, Soph., 6-3, Perth, Australia                                                          
Point Loma’s Ruby Vlahov could hardly miss last week while helping her team to a pair of wins over Western Oregon and Northwest Nazarene. The sophomore transfer from St. Mary’s put up 27 points against the Wolves in a 93-67 win, hitting 11-of-15 shots from the field and 4-of-5 from behind the arch. Against NNU, the 6-foot-3 forward scored 17, giving her an average of 22 points per game on the week while shooting 69 percent from the field. She nailed 6-of-11 three-point attempts, had 11 rebounds and three steals.
 
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Westmont’s Lisa Kiefer, F, Sr., 6-2, Marburg, Germany                                            
Westmont’s Lisa Kiefer was a defensive stopper in the Warriors’ wins over CCAA teams CSU Dominguez Hills and CSU San Bernardino. The former University of Montana player had 13 rebounds and four blocked shots in a 16-point win over the Coyotes and added two more blocks and 11 boards in a trouncing of the Toros. For the week, the German had 24 rebounds (21 on the defensive end), six blocks, six steals and 15 points. It was the fifth Defender of the Week award for Kiefer, which is tied for second all-time on the PacWest list.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Westmont clobbered CSU Dominguez Hills 90-55 and topped CSU San Bernardino 62-46 to improve to 4-2 last week. Both of those wins came on the road, and in racing past the Toros they beat the defending CCAA and west region champs. The Warriors held the Coyotes and Toros to a combined 50.5 points per game (see Defender of the Week above), and beat two clubs picked to finish fourth and fifth respectively in the CCAA preseason poll. Jazmyn Shipp had 28 points on 10-of-12 shooting against CSUDH, while Sage Kramer led WC against CSUSB with 20. Mariah Brown had eight assists against the Coyotes and seven dimes against the Toros.
 
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Dominican improved to 5-0 with a 65-47 win over CSU Monterey Bay. Mahliya Wilson had 22 points for the Penguins, who are now the only unbeaten team in the PacWest…Mason Long had 16 points, hitting 4-of-5 three-pointers as Fresno Pacific won its lone game last week over Stanislaus State, 68-49…Audrey Sayoc had a PacWest season best nine assists to help lead Azusa Pacific to a 79-77 victory over CSU Dominguez Hills...Alberte Frisch had 27 points to lead Menlo to a 87-80 win over UC Santa Cruz. Frisch hit six three pointers and had five rebounds…Lucia Ricci helped Hawaii Pacific to a 63-55 win over CSU East Bay with 12 rebounds and three steals…In Point Loma’s win over Western Oregon, Jocelyn Pascual had 21 points and Izzy Navarro had seven assists. Navarro also had seven dishes against Northwest Nazarene.
