Urban Knights Win Own Tournament and PacWest Awards

Academy of Art leads a trio of conference schools, paced by medalist Isabella Christy.

Academy of Art hosted the Urban Knight Invite this week, but kept the prizes to themselves. The Urban Knights won the tri-match by 14 strokes, and Isabella Christy shot a pair of 74's in just her second collegiate match.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Academy of Art's Isabella Christy, Fr., 5-5 Paintsville, Kentucky                        
Academy of Art's Isabella Christy captured her first college victory in just her second start by winning the Urban Knight Invite. The freshman from Kentucky carded consistent rounds of 74-74 to edge Dominican's Angelica Antonio by a shot (+5). Christy has been a model of consistency in her two-tournament college career, shooting 73-74 in her very first collegiate outing in mid-September, tying for third at the RJGA in Goodyear, Arizona. 

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Academy of Art Urban Knights                                                                                    
Academy of Art won its own Invite on Tuesday with a two-round team score of +43, 14 shots better than Jessup (+57) and 19 in front of Dominican (+62). It was the Urban Knight's first team tournament win since the 2021 season. Isabella Christy was the medalist at +4 (see above), with teammate Chantel Tsai just three shots back at +7 (77-74). Nicole Yang (+10) and Meri Illamola (+11) rounded out the scoring for the Urban Knights.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Menlo finished second at the eight-team Run-in at the Ranch in Klamath Falls, Ore. The Oaks listed only behind host Oregon Tech, with two players tied for seventh in Sakashi Mehta and Holly Obermuller, both at +12 for the two rounds...Biola was at the NCAA West Region Preview in Amarillo, Texas, listing 9th of 16 teams in a loaded field that included some of the top teams in the west and southwest. Claire Shubin and Theresa Shaw were the top scorers for the Eagles, tied for 19th at +12...Back to the Urban Knight Invite, after the top finishes from Isabella Christy (+4), Angelica Antonio (+5) and Chantel Tsai (+7), Jessup's Corina Shaw was next at +8 (79-73). 

LOOKING AHEAD: Eight schools will be in action next week at three different tournaments on Oct. 7-8. Jessup and Academy of Art will travel to Rohnert Park, Calif. to play in Sonoma State's Fall Invitational, while Westmont will host Menlo, Dominican and Point Loma in Goleta at the Sandpiper GC. Three other PacWest schools will play at the NCAA National Preview in Boulder Creek, Nev.--Vanguard, Biola and Hawai`i Hilo.
