Four MBB Teams Split Four Awards

Jessup and Vanguard go 2-0 to share Team of the Week, while 'Sword Kris King's 27 points and six steals garner him Player of the Week. Biola's Casey Cappo's totals land him Defender of the Week.

Two teams share the PacWest Team of the Week after a pair of wins in week two. Chaminade's Kris King was a force at both ends of the court leading his team to a win over Alaska and BU's Casey Cappo had the rebounds (7.5), the blocks (3) and the points (40) for Defender of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chaminade's Kris King, Jr., G, 6-5, 210, Washington, D.C.                    
Chaminade's Kris King's performance during a 91-84 win over Alaska last Monday gives the Silverswords back-to-back Player of the Week awards (Jackson Last was the other). King had 27 points and six steals during the win over the Nanooks, Chaminade's second victory over a long weekend against UAF. The Vincennes University (Indiana) transfer hit 10-of-20 shots from the field and ran to his totals in just 29 minutes of action. 

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Biola's Casey Cappo, Sr., F, 6-7, 225, Walnut Creek, Calif.            
Biola's Casey Cappo, averaged 20 points a game and 7.5 rebounds a contest for the Eagles during a split of games against CCAA teams last week. In a 68-63 loss to CS San Bernardino, in front of 670 fans, Cappo had 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. On Saturday, during a tight 83-79 win over Cal Poly Pomona, the third-year Eagle had 25 points and seven rebounds to help Biola improve to 3-1 and hand the Broncos their first loss.

TEAMS OF THE WEEK: Jessup and Vanguard                                                                                
First-year PacWest members Jessup and Vanguard share the Team of the Week award after 2-0 weeks. Jessup went overtime to edge Simpson (89-86) behind Wyatt Studer's 22 points. In another narrow win, this time 64-63 over UC Merced, Studer had 15 points, six rebounds and three blocks. The Warriors improved to 3-0 with the wins. Vanguard rolled past La Sierra (87-71) behind Anthony Tello's monster game of 30 points, seven rebounds and five steals. In a 24-point win over San Francisco State (84-60), Chris Chiles and Leonard Turner had 20 points for the Lions. Those were the opening two games of the season for Vanguard.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Concordia's Charlie Dalton averaged 11.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals as the Golden Eagles split a pair of games last week. In one of those games, CUI lost a heartbreaker to Cal Poly Pomona, 80-78. But they moved to 3-1 with a 86-73 win over California Lutheran...Westmont's Adrian McIntyre had 25 points and two steals in a 71-69 loss to San Francisco State...Azusa Pacific topped Seattle Pacific 80-66 behind Jordan Hansen's 22 points. Hansen hit 5-of-6 three-pointers. Ethan Speaker had 15 points, six rebounds and three blocks in a 88-82 loss to unbeaten Western Washington...Jonas Visser had 22 in Hawaii Pacific's loss to Sonoma State, 74-70, while HPU's Sherman Brashear had 20 in a 75-67 setback to Stanislaus State...Nathan Medina had 25 points in Biola's win over Cal Poly Pomona, where the Eagles outscored the Broncos 46-37 in the second half...In a rollback of the 2022-23 NCAA West Region final, CS San Bernardino clipped Point Loma, 76-65. Luke Haupt had a stat sheet of 17 points, five rebounds and four steals...Academy of Art put up 101 points on Chico State, scoring 56 of those points in the second half. Six different Urban Knights were in double figures, led by Isaiah Williams (20) and Rodney Munson (19).
