Point Loma and Hawai`i Hilo clinched tournament berths last Saturday, with four teams left to battle for the final two spots with a week left in the regular season. Concordia made the biggest push with a pair of wins, while Westmont won its only match behind Sierra Martin's three goals. Chaminade stayed alive with a pair of shutouts (one win, one tie) with keeper Jordhan Kieres steering the defense.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Westmont's Sierra Martin, F, Jr., 5-8, Rio Rancho, New Mexico
Westmont's Sierra Martin notched just the second hat trick in the PacWest this season with three scores in the Warriors' 3-1 victory over Academy of Art on Saturday. The third-year Warrior scored her first three goals of the season all in a batch, finding the back of the net just two minutues into the contest (1:46), again at 20:28 and the third came before the end of the half at 30:38. The New Mexico native took six shots in the contest to score her three goals, helping the Warriors keep pace in the conference tournament hunt with a 7-2 record (21 points).
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Chaminade's Jordhan Kieres, GK, Sr., 5-5, Lakewood, Ohio
Chaminade's Jordhan Kieres directed the Silversword defense to a pair of clean sheets last week during a 1-0 win over Fresno Pacific and a 0-0 tie with Hawai`i Pacific. The fifth-year senior had a pair of saves versus the Sunbirds and had four more against island rival HPU to help Chaminade improve to 5-2-3 in PacWest play (18 points). The Ohio native made just her third and fourth starts of the season and her career, and now has a goals against average of 0.93. Kieres did not see action in the net last year and redshirted in 2022 after spending three years in the Bellarmine (Kentucky) program.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Concordia Golden Eagles
Concordia was the only team in the conference to win two matches last week, improving to 7-1-1 in league play (22 points) and 11-1-2 overall. The Golden Eagles outscored their opponents 6-1, first dispatching of Dominican 4-1 with four different CUI players accounting for the four scores. On Saturday during a 2-0 win over Jessup, the Golden Eagles used two late scores by
Hailey Havican to slip by the Warriors. Havican scored in the 75th and 86th minutes to avoid the upset and keep pace for a tournament berth. Those two bounce back wins for Concordia came just a few days after they suffered their only loss of the season to Azusa Pacific on Oct. 26.
NATIONAL AND WEST REGION NOTICE: Heading into this week's first official NCAA West Region ranking, the PacWest has three teams in the Top 25 (Oct. 29) United States Coaches Association national poll.

Azusa Pacific is the first one on the list among "Others Receiving Votes." The only other team making the list from the West Region is Cal Poly Pomona (CCAA), ranked No. 4. The first NCAA rankings, which ultimately determine the at-large postseason squads, will be announced on Wednesday.
CONFERENCE COUNTDOWN: The first-ever Pacific West Conference Championship tournament will be held Nov. 14 and 16 at the Great Park in Irvine. That means that there is just one week left in the regular season, with the top four teams in the final standings earning the trip to Orange County (the three new schools are not yet NCAA postseason eligible). Each team plays 11 conference matches, and here is where we sit as we head into the final week. Four teams are still in contention for the four spots. 1.

LOOKING AHEAD: It all comes down to this, the final week of the regular season. Today (Monday), Azusa Pacific visits Academy of Art. Thursday's slate features five matches--Hawaii Pacific at Westmont, Concordia at Vanguard, Biola at Menlo, Azusa Pacific at Jessup and Point Loma at Fresno Pacific. On Saturday, Dominican visits Westmont, Point Loma is at Academy of Art, Chaminade is at Hawaii Hilo, Hawaii Pacific visits Concordia and Biola is at Fresno Pacific.
PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Point Loma and
Hawai`i Hilo clinched tournament berths on Saturday, both with home wins. The Sea Lions took out Biola 3-0 with three different players finding the back of the net, while the Vulcans topped Fresno Pacific with the same 3-0 score.
Tierra Arakawa had a goal and assist for UHH, while
Bethany Arabe scored one of the goals for PLNU...That segways into the next note, which is that Arakawa now has 72 career points, which is tied for sixth all-time on the PacWest list.
