PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Azusa Pacific's Mia Alvarez, INF, Sr., 5-3, Montebello, Calif.

Azusa Pacific's Mia Alvarez went 6-for-13 last week as the Cougars went 3-1 in games against Hawaii Pacific and Concordia. She had a home run in each of the games against the Golden Eagles and also drove in four runs, had a double and scored six times. The second-year Cougar had multiple hits and runs in three of the four games. The former California Baptist player now has eight home runs on the season and is hitting .305.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Biola's Raylene Roybal, RHP/OF, Sr., 5-3, Pico Rivera, Calif.
With her team's postseason hopes on the line, Biola's Raylene Roybal stepped up big in the pitcher's circle for the Eagles last week. The veteran righthander pitched two complete game shutouts, including a one-hit gem against Hawaii Pacific. In that game, a 4-0 win, Roybal gave up just the one hit and walked one while also striking out five Shark batters. The day previous Roybal scattered six hits without giving up a run, didn't walk a batter and fanned ten HPU hitters. For the week, the 2023 All-PacWest pick as a pitcher and outfielder, threw 14 innings, gave up no runs and struck out 15 batters to improve to 10-8 on the season with a 2.33 ERA.

VULCANS VICTORIUS FOUR TIMES TO REACH POSTSEASON: The PacWest Team of the Week is the HAWAII HILO VULCANS. Coach Aisha Sueda's team swept island rivals Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade last weekend to clinch a Pacific West Conference tournament spot. The Vulcans are now 16-10 in conference play and 24-15 overall, with its regular season already in the books. The Vulcans have won ten of their last 11 contests, dating back to March 29. This past weekend at home, Hilo won an extra inning game against the Silverswords (3-2, 9 inn.) and another versus the Sharks (7-6, 8 inn.), and in the other two contests shut out their island opponent---beating Chaminade 4-0 and HPU 1-0. Madison Rabe tossed one of the those shutouts with a seven-inning three-hit effort.

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Just a few games remain in the 2024 regular season before the PacWest tournament at Dominican in San Rafael (May 1-3). The top four teams at the end of the week will make the trip to Dominican's campus for the double-elimination tournament. With Concordia (23-3) already haven clinched the conference regular season title, here's a look the field that is fighting for the three other spots--Azusa Pacific (17-9), Hawai`i Hilo (18-10), Biola (12-11), and Dominican (12-14). Hilo's season is complete, so they will just sit back and see where they land in terms of seeding between them and the Cougars. Biola and Dominican are vying for that fourth and final spot.

THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: PacWest play wraps up this week, beginning with a Wednesday doubleheader between Biola and Concordia. Dominican is at Academy of Art on Friday, and Saturday features Biola at Azusa Pacific and Chaminade at Hawaii Pacific.
