Pacific West Conference softball teams have an uphill battle after dropping their opening games at the NCAA West Regional tournament.
Biola lost to CS San Marcos in walk-off fashion (3-2) while Concordia fell to Western Washington, 8-0. The Eagles will now play St. Martin's on Friday at 1:30, while Concordia will play take on Sonoma State at 12:30 pm. Both are loser out games.
Western Washington 8, Concordia 0
Concordia ran into a pitching buzzsaw in Western Washington’s Joie Baker. The Viking senior pitched all six innings and allowed just two hits. She walked three and struck out four, and worked around all three of those walks in the first two innings.
Meanwhile WWU scored four runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third. They added one run in the sixth to complete the mercy rule 8-0 verdict.
Kayla Rodgers and
Caitlynn Campbell had the only two Golden Eagles hits, with Campbell hitting a single in the fourth and Rodgers doubling in the sixth.
CS San Marcos 3, Biola 2
CS San Marcos’ Paige Donnelly singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off the win for the Cougars.
Biola had three hits in the game, including
Maddie Granados RBI-single in the first inning that helped the Eagles to a 2-0 lead.
But the Cougars chipped away with a run in the first and another in the fifth, setting up Donnelly’s game-winning hit. In the pitching circle,
Jayline Sloss gave up just one earned run for the Cougars
DJ Symons took the loss for the Eagles, allowing only two earned runs in 6.1 innings, with seven hits, five walks and three strikeouts.
