PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo's Teani Arakawa, MF-F, Sr., 5-1, Makawao, Hawai`i
Hawai`i Hilo's Teani Arakawa added a hat trick to her strong resume during a 4-0 victory over Seattle Pacific on Saturday. Arakawa, the 2023 PacWest and West Region Player of the Year, scored three times on just four shots and also had an assist as the Vulcans rushed past the Falcons. Arakawa assisted Alyssa Padron on a goal a minute and a half into the match, and then followed up with scores at 19, 21 and 51 minutes before exiting the match after just 67 minutes of play. In just over two seasons, the South Dakota State transfer now has 21 career goals and 12 assists in 35 total matches. It was Arakawa's fourth all-time PacWest Player of the Week award, the most for any Vulcan player in the program's history.

The 2023 PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year directed the 2024 Vulcans to a pair of shutouts last week. Phoebe Barnes didn't give up a goal in 180 minutes during a 0-0 road tie with CS San Bernardino and a 4-0 win over No. 8 nationally ranked Seattle Pacific. Barnes and Hawai`i Hilo have yet to give up a score in three matches this season. Barnes had three saves against the Coyotes and two against the Falcons, running her save total to 12 on the season. After transferring to Hilo from Sonoma State last Fall, Barnes now has 53 career saves as a Vulcan and a 0.65 goals against average.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo Vulcans
Hawai`i Hilo didn't have the best experience the last time they visited Interbay Stadium in Seattle in 2021, falling to Sonoma State 5-1 in their first-ever NCAA playoff match. Last Saturday, they went the opposite direction with a 4-0 win over Seattle Pacific on the turf next to the Space Needle. The defending GNAC champs, ranked No. 8 in the Sept. 10 national poll, had outscored their 2024 opponents 9-2 before facing the Vulcans. They are picked to finish second in this fall's conference race. Teani Arakawa (see above) had a foot in all four Vulcan scores, while Hilo limited the Falcons to nine shots and just two on goal. Earlier in the week, UHH fought to a 0-0 draw with CS San Bernardino with UHH goalkeeper Phoebe Barnes collecting three saves.
