Hilo Duo Wins Washington Tournaments

Ben Crinella and Jacob Torres claim titles at SMU and WWU. Vulcans win Team of the Week as well.

In the rarest of occurances, Hawai`i Hilo had TWO DIFFERENT players win tournaments in the same week far away from home. Ben Crinella won the SMU Bishop Invitational near Olympia and just a few days later Jacob Torres did the same at the WWU Invite in Bellingham, taking the title after three holes in a four-player playoff. The Vulcans were also the top PacWest team in either field to earn Team of the Week honors.

2025-26 Schedule and Results

Player(s) of the Week: Hawai`i Hilo's Ben Crinella, Jr., 5-8, Huntington Beach, Calif.
Hawai`i Hilo's Ben Crinella fired a three-round score of 10-under par to win the SMU Bishop Classic at the Home Course in DuPont, Wash. Crinella had 14 birdies over the three rounds and added in an eagle on the final day to edge UBC Okanaga's Ryan Vest by one shot. The southern California native tallied rounds of 69-68-69 for the win, the first of his two-year Vulcan career. This was Crinella's best three-round score of his career. He also holds the UHH 18-hole record after shooting a 64 last year at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate.

Player(s) of the Week: Hawai`i Hilo's Jacob Torres, Sr., 6-0, Aiea, Hawai`i
Hawai`i Hilo's Jacob Torres gave his team back-to-back tournament winners for the first time in very recent memory, if ever. Torres won a four-player playoff at the WWU Invitational in Bellingham, taking the title on the third playoff hole with a par after tying Denby Carswell of Simon Fraser, Fisher Ransom of Vanguard and UBC Okanaga's Ryan Vest. All finished the first 54 holes at -7. Torres shot a sizzling 67 in the first round, a 70 in the second and 72 over the final 18 holes. Like Crinella, it was the first tournament win as a Vulcan for Torres.
