Lions Cap Fall Season with Record Book Win

Vanguard wins the Danish Classic by eight shots, notching first tournament win in school history. Fisher Ransom and Alexander Elia go 1-2 to lead the Lions.

Vanguard wrapped up the Fall portion of its 2025-26 men's golf season in spectacular fashion, winning the eight-team Danish Classic. It was the first tournament win for the Lions and they were paced by co-Players of the Week Fisher Ransom and Alexander Elia, who shot -8 and -7 respectively for the two rounds.

Vanguard's Fisher Ransom won the Danish Classic and pocketed his second PacWest Player of the Week award in the process. The former Hawaii Pacific player shot rounds of 67 and 69 to lead from start to finish at the Ranch Course of the Alisal Golf Club in Solvang, Calif.. The southern California native had 19 pars and nine birdies over the two days. This comes just one week after Ransom tied for first place at the Western Washington Invitational with three other players, getting edged out for medalist honors in a four-way playoff.

Vanguard's Alexander Elia finished just one shot behind teammate Fisher Ransom to grab second place at the Danish Classic and co-Player of the Week honors. The San Diego native fired rounds of 69 and 68, with the latter being the low score of the tournament for the second round. The second-year Lion had a tournament-high 11 birdies and along with Ransom, they were the only two players under par for the tournament. Last year as a freshman, Elia led Vanguard with a 74.2 stroke average and earned Second Team All-PacWest honors.

Vanguard is the Team of the Week after winning their first tournament, and they did so convincingly by eight shots over second-place Chapman. The Lions shot rounds of 280 and 289 (569) for a total of 7-under-par. Backing the medalist and runner-up play of Fisher Ransom (-8) and Alexander Elia (-7) were Tyler Williams (+3), Paul Howard (+10) and Rex Robinette (+10). "It was only a matter of time before we got our first team victory," shared eighth-year head coach Jeff Anderson.  "We've all been working so hard and trending in the right direction. I couldn't be prouder of these guys for their fight and grit. It's just the beginning for this team and I'm looking forward to the spring season."

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Westmont finished fourth at the Danish Classic with a team score of 591 (+15) five shots behind third-place The Master's. Santiago Lopez finished in third place overall at -1, with rounds of 71 and 72. Tied for fourth were Warriors Fernando Jimenz and Nicolas Rocha, both at +1...Dominican and Jessup played a Ryder Cup style 18 holes at the Grizzly Ranch GC in Portola on Monday, with the Penguins winning the close battle by the count of 4-3. 

LOOKING AHEAD: Four PacWest teams will be in Seaside, Calif. next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 13-14) for the CSU Monterey Bay Otter Classic. Making the trip to play at the Bayonet GC will be Hawaii Hilo, Menlo, Dominican and Westmont.
