Hawai`i Hilo earned a program-high three special awards and
Vanguard grabbed two plaques for the first time in school history to highlite the 2025 Pacific West Conference men's soccer postseason honors.
Meanwhile, three-time defending conference champ
Point Loma leader
Phil Wolf earned his third straight Coach of the Year award. The six special awards and the three-team all-conference selections were announced a day prior to the PacWest Championship tournament, to be held on Thursday and Saturday in Santa Barbara. Tomorrow, No. 1 seed Point Loma will take on No. 4 Fresno Pacific at 11 am, while No. 2 seed Vanguard will square off with No. 3 Hawaii Hilo at 2 pm.
Phil Wolf was named the PacWest Coach of the Year for the third straight time, leading the Sea Lions to their third consecutive PacWest regular season title. The Sea Lions march into the tournament with a 13-3-1 overall record and they finished a near-perfect 9-1 in PacWest play. Wolf's team has been ranked as high as No. 10 in the national poll and were listed No. 3 in last week's NCAA Super Region 4 list. Point Loma scored a school record 51 goals this season by 13 different players.
The PacWest Player of the Year is Vanguard's
Adan Alvarado. The sophomore had nine goals and four assists on the season (22 points), including six goals and three assists in conference-only matches. Alvarado scored six goals in the final six matches of the season, including two in a win over Dominican to help vault the Lions into their first PacWest tournament as the No. 2 seed.
The Defender of the Year is a familiar name to PacWest coaches.
Koki Hamada of Hawaii Hilo won the award this year and also picked up his fourth All-PacWest honor at the same time. The senior helped lead a turnaround in the Vulcan program from his position in the backline, to 31 wins over the past three seasons. He has logged over 5,000 minutes in his starting role for Hilo, who is the No. 3 seed in the PacWest tournament.
Another familiar name is the Goalkeeper of the Year, repeat winner
Aidan Hay of Vanguard. Hay had three shutouts and 36 saves in ten conference matches, and added 49 saves and five shutouts overall. His 1.18 goals against average leads the conference as his defense helped lead the Lions to their first conference tournament appearance.
Hawaii Hilo earned the two first-year player awards.
Jakob Santiago is the Freshman of the Year, making a huge splash in his rookie season. The Los Angeles native helped lead a Vulcan defense (along with Hamada) that gave up only 16 goals all season long and just 10 in 10 matches in PacWest play. He logged over 1,000 minutes as a true freshman and also scored four goals in conference matches.
His Vulcan teammate
Iago Perez-Ferreiro is the Newcomer of the Year, one year after earning Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year honors at Southern New Hampshire. Perez-Ferreiro scored five goals in conference matches on just nine shots, including three game winners. He scored five of those goals in a stretch of five straight matches in the final month of the regular season.
Alvarado, Hamada, Hay and Perez-Ferreiro were all First Team All-PacWest selections. Point Loma led the way with four First-Team nods--
Cole Friesen, Elijah Langford, Gael Ruiz and
Ryan Doyle. Those are repeat selections for Langford, Ruiz and Doyle, and Doyle was the PacWest Defender of the Year in 2024.
Other First Team picks, selected by the PacWest coaches, are defenders
Alex Martinez (Vanguard) and
Domenyk Jara (Concordia), midfielders
Luis Solis (Azusa Pacific) and
Miguel Arroyo (Concordia) and forward
Zion Vaughn (Fresno Pacific). It was Solis and Arroyo's second All-PacWest selections.
Eight Second or Third Team players were honored for the second time in their careers--goalkeeper
Martin Fiala (Menlo), defenders
Julian Aran Martin (Fresno Pacific) and
Felix Drizinsky (Hawaii Hilo), midfielder
Erik Guerrero (Westmont) and forwards
Emmett Layman (Point Loma),
Isak Haukefaer (Menlo) and
Lucas Ribeiro (Fresno Pacific).
