Champion Cougars Claim Trio of WSOC Awards

Azusa Pacific's Brooke Lincoln is the Coach of the Year while the Defender and Freshman of the Year also wear APU uniforms.

Azusa Pacific, the 2025 Pacific West Conference regular season champions, showed well in the postseason all-conference lists as well.

APU leader Brooke Lincoln is the Coach of the Year, Sophia Emerson is the Defender of the Year and Mayilen Salazar is the Freshman of the Year. Emerson is also a First Team pick of the league's coaches, as was Zoey Kuhn as a forward.

The Player of the Year will be shared in 2025 by Concordia's Bella Barrett and Dominican's Megan Clapinski. The Goalkeeper of the Year is Hawaii Hilo's Lydia Keller and the Newcomer of the Year is Point Loma's Kylie Garcia.

The awards were announced today (Wednesday), on the eve of the PacWest tournament at Point Loma. No. 1 seed Azusa Pacific will face No. 4 Dominican on Thursday and No. 2 Hawaii Hilo will square off against host and No. 3 seed Point Loma.

Bella Barrett
and Megan Clapinski, two first-time all-conference selections, share the Player of the Year honor. Barrett led the PacWest in game-winning goals with six and had eight overall. Half of her scores came in the first four minutes of action. Her eight goals, compiled in just 14 matches (she missed three early in the season), ranks only behind Clapinski's nine goals. The Dominican senior also led the conference with 21 points, leading the Penguins to their first winning record in the school's Division II era, along with their first postseason appearance.

Sophia Emerson is the Defender of the Year, helping to lead a stout Cougar defense that at one point this season produced ten consecutive shutouts. Emerson played nearly every minute of every match this season for the conference champion Cougars, who ended up with 11 shutouts on the season. In a half dozen of those matches, APU allowed only one shot or less in the match.

Hawaii Hilo's Lydia Keller is the Goalkeeper of the Year. The first-year Vulcan, a transfer from Idaho State, had a 0.52 goals against average. She had 61 saves on the season and had eight shutouts. Her 0.884 save percentage, along with her goals against average, ranked second in the PacWest.

Newcomer of the Year Kylie Garcia made an immediate impact on the Point Loma team after transferring from UC Davis. The graduate senior had four goals and two assists, and tied for the team lead with the four scores.

Mayilen Salazar is the Freshman of the Year, after starting in 14 of 15 matches for the Cougars during their championship run. The midfielder twice had game-winning assists during 1-0 APU victories and finished with three assists and a goal on the season.

Brooke Lincoln led her team to a conference title in one of the toughest leagues in the country. The Cougars were 8-2 in the PacWest and are 11-3-3 overall heading into the conference tournament. Ranked fourth in the latest NCAA West Region poll, the Cougars under Lincoln won their first PacWest championship since 2016.

Barrett, Clapinski, Emerson, and Keller were also All-PacWest First Team selections. Joining that group of four on the First Team list was APU's Kuhn and Priya Torres (Point Loma) at forward (with Barrett and Clapinski). At midfielder the list reads Rachel Penick (Vanguard), Grace Nelson (Point Loma), Janae Schwan (Dominican) and Briana Kubli (Hawaii Hilo). First Team All-PacWest defenders are Emerson, Haley Clark (Hawaii Hilo), Madison Hall (Concordia) and Zoe Crockett (Point Loma). This is Crockett's third selection and the second All-PacWest honor for Nelson, Clark and Hall.

Three players earned their third All-PacWest honors--Peyton Nelson (Biola), Amelia Villa (Westmont) and Riley Urquiza (Concordia). Five others were honored for the second time--Alyssa Ketcham (Point Loma), Briley Phelps (Biola), Nikki Ross (Point Loma), Gianna Masinter (Point Loma) and Ashley Grubert (Concordia).
