Azusa Pacific’s Zoey Kuhn scored twice in the first seven minutes of APU’s Game of the Week encounter at Point Loma during a 2-1 Cougar victory. Kuhn stole balls to lead to both goals, first at 2:55 and then again at 6:16 to give her a team a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. It was just the third and fourth goals of the season for the second-year Cougar, although she has now scored all of those goals in her last four matches. She had three shots total against the Sea Lions in 55 total minutes of action.
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Vanguard’s Josselyne Navarrete, GK, Soph., 5-7, Orange, Calif.

She had the shutout with six saves during a 2-0 win over Westmont, and added another five saves in a 0-0 deadlock with Biola. She faced 14 total shots in those two matches in gaining her second and third shutouts of the season, and her third in a row. This was just her fifth and sixth matches of the season, as her first start wasn’t until Oct. 11. This is second-year member Vanguard’s first women’s soccer player of the week award.
TEAM(S) OF THE WEEK: Azusa Pacific Cougars and Fresno Pacific Sunbirds
Azusa Pacific is the Team of the Week after going on the road to plant a 2-1 verdict on Point Loma, the defending conference champion. The Cougars used two quick goals from
Zoey Kuhn (see above), and after the Sea Lions answered in the 11
th minute, APU’s defense stood tight the rest of the way. It was a massively important win for the Cougars, clinching a conference tournament spot and boosting their position at the top of the standings with 21 points (7-1). It was also APU’s first win over Point Loma since 2019.
Fresnp Pacific shared the honor with a huge 1-0 victory over second place Concordia.
