Westmont went far north for a pair of wins over the Alaska schools, topping the Nanooks and Seawolves by six points each. Aidan Mandel was a key cog in the Warriors’ defense with 21 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals. Meanwhile at the Southwest Maui Invitational, Chaminade’s Nathan Medina broke out for 30 against Division I Texas, hitting eight 3-pointers.

Chaminade’s Nathan Medina put on a show for the ESPN 2 audience at the Southwest Maui Invitational with 30 points against Texas, hitting 8-of-13 shots from three-point range. The eight treys was the fifth most in the storied history of the classic. The Biola transfer also had 15 points and four steals against Washington State and added six points and four assists versus Boise State. Medina also won a Player of the Week award while at Biola, and gives Chaminade their 46
th all-time POW, most of any team in the conference.

Westmont’s Aidan Mandel helped the Warriors to a pair of wins by holding Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Fairbanks to an average of 62 points a game. The local Santa Barbara product had 14 boards against the Nanooks and seven more against the SeaWolves, with 15 of his 21 rebounds coming on the defensive end of the court. The second-year Warrior totaled four blocked shots, three steals and had 16 points.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Westmont grabbed two big crossover wins at the Sprite Tundra Classic in Anchorage last week. The Warriors won twice by a half dozen points each over Alaska Anchorage (64-58) and Alaska Fairbanks (72-66) to help Westmont improve to 3-3 on the season.
JV Brown had 23 points against the Seawolves and
Jarrett Bryant added 17 and posted 22 against the Nanooks. Bryant also averaged 6.5 rebounds a game and was named the tournament MVP.
