After a wild three-day Opening Weekend that included 49 softball games, Concordia stood out with a 4-1 record for Team of the Week. Hawai`i Hilo's Victoria Macias hit the ball at a .526 clip and drove in eight runs for Player of the Week, and Azusa Pacific's Mia Castillo gave up just one run in 17 innings of work with a pair of wins for Pitcher of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo's Victoria Macias, Soph., 1B/3B, 5-7, R/R, Riverside, Calif.
Hawai`i Hilo's Victoria Macias jump started her 2025 season in southern California with a hot bat. The sophomore corner infielder hit the ball at a .526 clip (10-for-19) over five games and drove in eight runs. The Riverside native, who started every game for the Vulcans as a freshman in 2024, also crossed the plate six times, had two doubles and a home run. She had four of those hits and five RBI in a win over Sonoma State, and had at least one hit and RBI in four of the five games as the Vulcans went 2-3. As a freshman, Macias hit .301 with 13 doubles and 39 RBI.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Azusa Pacific's Mia Castillo, Soph., RHP, 5-4, Rialto, Calif.
Azusa Pacific's Mia Castillo did excellent work in the pitcher's circle as a starter and reliever over the weekend. The sophomore righthander pitched two complete games, including an eight-inning extra time shutout over Colorado State-Pueblo (1-0) on Monday night. Castillo pitched a total of 17 innings, allowed just one run and seven hits and struck out eight. She was 2-0 on the week, which included a seven inning win over No. 2 nationally ranked Western Washington where she gave up one run and two hits. The second-year Cougar, who was fourth on APU's pitching chart a year ago, also pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Team of the Week is the
Concordia Golden Eagles. Hosting their own Concordia Kickoff Classic, the Golden Eagles won four of five games to post the second best record in the massive tournament. The defending PacWest champions and preseason favorites defeated CS Monterey Bay (4-3), Central Washington (5-0), Colorado State-Pueblo (5-1) and Fort Lewis CO (5-0). Their only setback was to San Francisco State (5-1).
Kayla Rodgers, a grad transfer from Grand Canyon, led the offense with a .400 average (6-for-15) with two doubles and two triples and seven runs scored.
Jayden Nishi picked up two wins in the pitcher's circle, turning in 11 innings of work while allowing only one run and five hits. She fanned 15.
Bella Calvo grabbed the other two wins, allowing just a pair of runs in 11 innings of work. The Golden Eagles had a team ERA of 1.20 over the five games.
THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: 47 more games are on the preseason schedule this week. Chaminade, Hawai`i Pacific and Hawai`i Hilo will take on Nebraska-Kearney, Hillsdale, Cal Poly Humboldt, Ferris State and Lewis on Oahu, while No. 18 Northwest Nazarene stays in SoCal to take on Concordia and Azusa Pacific, and CUI will also face Western Oregon. NorCal schools Menlo, Academy of Art, Dominican and Jessup will stay in that part of the state to take on CCAA schools Sonoma State, Stanislaus State, San Fransicso State and CS East Bay. Concordia had the best mark among PacWest teams over the weekend at 4-1,
Dominican (3-2) and
Hawai`i Pacific (4-3) also had winning records. Among the Sharks accomplishments was a 4-3 win over No. 15 CS Dominguez Hills and a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 18 Northwest Nazarene.
Layla Molina picked up two pitching wins for the Sharks, allowing four runs in 19 innings of work. The Penguins defeated CS San Bernardino, Fort Lewis and Central Washington, sporting a 1.96 ERA in the process.
