SAN DIEGO--CSU San Bernardino's Andrew Henderson scored 28 points, the marjority of them in the second half to help his team rally for a 88-77 NCAA West Region men's basketball quarterfinal win over Biola on Friday night at Golden Gymnasium.
The #5 seed Coyotes now advance to play in Saturday's semifinal (7:30 pm) against #1 seed and host Point Loma, who defeated Seattle Pacific earlier tonight, 68-54.
Biola, the #4 seed and second place finisher in the Pacific West Conference, ends its season at 22-8.
After 20 minutes of play, the two teams were deadlocked at 37-37. The Coyotes had led by as many as eight points (22-14), but the Eagles flew back behind Davian Brown, who hit all five of his first half shots and had 13 points at the break.
Biola led 40-38 early in the second half, but the game then turned behind Henderson. CSUSB went on an 8-0 run, with six of those points scored by Henderson. The 'Yotes would never trail again, and the closest Biola would get was on Brown's driving lay-up that cut the margin to 48-42.
CSUSB shot 56 percent in the second half and would lead by as many as 21 points. Any run that Biola would make was negated at the free throw line where the 'Yotes converted 13 of 14 second half charity shots. Henderson finished with 11 rebounds to go with 28 points and Nic Welp had 22 points and eight boards.
Brown led the Eagles with 24 points, with Daniel Esparza adding 20 and Casey Cappo had 15. Biola's 22 wins are the most for the program since transitioning to Division I in 2018. They dropped their final two games of the season, but prior to that had an 11- game win streak.
