Westmont's Adrian McIntyre Rewrites Record Books On Way to Athlete of the Year Honor

Warrior basketball standout is the PacWest Male Athlete of the Year after leading all of NCAA Division II in scoring.

Westmont's Adrian McIntyre exceeded expectations and rewrote record books in becoming the school's first Pacific West Conference Male Athlete of the Year.

The senior guard led all of NCAA Division II in scoring in just his second year in a Warrior uniform, in what was also year number two for Westmont in the conference. Thus, he becomes the first Westmont player to win the PacWest Male Athlete of the Year honor.

McIntyre was chosen by the conference's athletic directors from a nominee list representing the PacWest's seven men's sports.

Just one season after averaging 13.6 points per game as a junior, the Sylmar, Calif. native broke out in a big way by averaging 27.8 points a contest to lead the nation in scoring at all three levels (Divisions I, II, and III). The 6-foot-3 guard was named the PacWest Player of the Year and was a First Team All-American.

The senior broke Westmont's 70-year old single game scoring record, posting 51 points against Point Loma Nazarene on February 8. That was also a new entry into the PacWest record book. He set a new Westmont single-season record for most points (752), and established PacWest records for scoring average (27.9) and field goals made in a season (277). His field goal percentage of .560 was best in the PacWest, a bizarre accomplishment that you almost never see happen for a scoring machine. An all-around player, McIntyre also averaged 5.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 steals while playing a conference high 37.9 minutes per game.

McIntyre, who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Ventura CC, scored at least 30 points or more eight times last season, including a 40-point performance against second place Biola. McIntyre becomes the third basketball player to win the PacWest Male Athlete of the Year award and breaks a string of three consecutive athlete of the year honors won by Point Loma.
