Nation's Top Early Season Marks Belong to PacWest Duo

Academy of Art's Lina Hanich sets a school mark and nation's best in the 800 meters. Jessup's Julia Pisenti flings the discus 166-9 to top the D2 charts.

Academy of Art's Lina Hanich is already in late season form in the middle distances and earns the first Track Athlete of the Week award. Jessup's Julia Pisenti hurled the discus 166-9 to sit on top of the national chart for D2.

TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Academy of Art's Lina Hanich, Middle Distance, Grad., 6-0, Paderborn, Germany
Academy of Art's Tre`Lina Hanich broke ART U's school record and ran the best 800 meter time in NCAA Division II this season (21st in DII history), going 2:05.23 at the Hornet Invite, bettering the NCAA standard by over six seconds. The German ran the third-fastest 1500m time in NCAA DII this season, going 4:27.00, bettering the standard by over three seconds, and ran the second leg of 4x400m relay that is third-fastest in NCAA DII this season at 3:47.36, bettering the standard by nearly a full second. The fifth-year Urban Knight posted outdoor nationals provisional qualifiers in all three events.

FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jessup's Julia Pisenta, Throws, Soph., Grass Valley, Calif.                                        
Jessup's Julia Pisenti rose to the top of NCAA Division II early season charts with a school record discus toss of 166-9 (50.83) at the Hornet Invitational. The sophomore also placed 9th (javelin) and 10th (shot put) at the same meet with mostly Division I athletes. Her discus throw bettered her previous top toss of 47.33. The multi-event athlete was the NAIA runner-up in the discus in 2024, and was also the GNAC champion in the triple jump.

NEWS AND NOTES: Point Loma's Maddie Reaves set a Sea Lion school record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:44.46, topping the previous mark by more than 12 seconds. Reaves finished fourth in the race at the Aztec Invitational, with only D-I racers ahead of her. Point Loma also set a new school mark in the 4x100 relay (47.19), topping a record that stood since 2011...Azusa Pacific's Jessica Kampman, the PacWest cross country champ, ran 16:43.15 in the 5K at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival...Fresno Pacific's Brianna Green skimmed the 400 hurdles in a terrific early season time of 59.01, tops in D2. Green was also part of a Sunbird 4x400 relay team that has the top time in the nation (3:40.88).

LOOKING AHEAD: PacWest teams will continue to launch into the outdoor season this week, competing in a variety of meets that include the Texas Relays, CS San Marcos, UC Irvine, West Coast Relays (Fresno), the Stanford Invitational and the Aztec Invitational. 

PacWest Championships: The 2025 conference meet will be hosted by Fresno Pacific this year in Fresno, April 25-26. Azusa Pacific will be chasing their ninth consecutive team titles for both men and women.
