Sharks, Golden Eagles Finish Strong

Concordia clinches a postseason berth with a pair of big wins, while Hawaii Pacific beats their island rivals by a total of 40 points. Menlo's Landon Seaman caps a terrific year as Player of the Week, while Hilo's Nadjrick Peat blocks and rebounds his way to Defender honors.

Hawai`i Pacific just missed the PacWest tournament but they ended their season in style with big wins over Chaminade and Hawai`i Hilo. The Sharks share the Team of the Week with Concordia, who had to win two and get some help to head to San Rafael this week. Menlo's Landon Seaman scored 50 in two games for Player of the Week, and Vulcan Nadjrick Peat had 15 rebounds and three blocks in a big road win against Academy of Art for Defender of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Menlo's Landon Seaman, F, Sr., 6-9, Vacaville, Calif.                                        
Menlo's Landon Seaman put up 30 points in a season-ending victory over Vanguard and had 50 for the week. In that 74-63 win over the Lions, his 30 was a career high and he did it on 11-of-15 shooting. The 6-9 forward also converted 8-of-9 free throw attempts, had six rebounds and three assists. On Thursday in a near upset of Point Loma (69-67), he had 20 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals--giving him a total of 50 points, 15 rebound, nine assists and four steals in his final collegiate week of basketball. This is Menlo's first PacWest Player of the Week award, although Seaman also won Defender of the Week earlier this season.

DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo's Nadjrick Peat, F-C, Sr., 6-11, Alexandria, Jamaica                
Hawai`i Hilo's Nadjrick Peat pulled down 15 rebounds and had three blocks in the Vulcans' improbable comeback win over Academy of Art in San Francisco, 70-65. ART U led by as many as 12 points in the second half before UH Hilo roared back to force overtime. Peat had two big free throws in overtime to help clinch the win. In a Saturday night loss at home to Hawai`i Pacific, the 2023 PacWest Defender of the Year had 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, giving him 23 rebounds and six blocks for the week. Peat leads the PacWest in blocks with 64, 22 more than anyone else in the conference. 

TEAM(s) OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Pacific and Concordia                                                                            
Hawai`i Pacific and Concordia share the final PacWest Team of the Week award for 2024-25. The Sharks closed the year with a vengence, winning by a combined 40 points over island rivals Chaminade and Hawai`i Hilo. Joshua West had 35 points for the week, while Charlie Weber contributed 30 points and 19 rebounds. Tucker Pellicci had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds against the Silverswords, helping the Sharks wrap up the season at .500 in conference play (10-10) and they were 15-14 overall. The Golden Eagles needed two wins and they got them, first knocking off Academy of Art (60-55) and then clinched a tournament spot on Saturday with a 68-59 triumph over Dominican. Jaden Henderson was big in Saturday's game with 28 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Concordia heads to San Rafael with a 16-11 overall record, having won four straight.

NCAA WEST REGION RANKINGS: The first official NCAA West Region rankings came out last Wednesday, with Point Loma listed on top at No. 1, giving them the inside track to host the regional tournament. Biola checked in at No. 4 and Academy of Art is 10. The next list will come out this Wednesday (March 5), and the final ranking/Select Show will be on Sunday evening (March 9). PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Point Loma's Luke Haupt, who missed all of 2023-24 with an injury, had a big final week of the regular season in 2024-25. The junior had the game winner in a 69-67 win over Menlo with three seconds remaining, and finished the game with a line of 23 points, five rebounds and three assists. In a 64-48 win over Westmont, he put up 20 points with six rebounds and three assists...Davian Brown had 22 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as Biola won their 11th straight game, a 77-72 Cornerstone Cup victory over Azusa Pacific...Jessup dashed Fresno Pacific's playoff hopes on the final day of the season, 77-76. Ja`Maris Blackmon had 24 points and the game winner with five seconds left. Blackmon had nine points in the final 1:13 of the game...Isaiah Williams had 24 points as Academy of Art won in their final game of the regular season, 84-60 over Azusa Pacific. Damarcies Moore had 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Urban Knights...Adrian McIntyre of Westmont heads into the postseason with a 27.8 points per game average, which is a few percentage points higher than the PacWest record of 27.5, set by Fresno Pacific's John Taylor in 2012-13. McIntyre, who has missed the last two games, has 723 total points with Taylor's 824 the single season record.
