'Swords and Warriors Win Four, Hilo's Rabe Throws No-No

Chaminade is the Team of the Week, Jessup's Ybarra leads her team to four wins and the Vulcans' Madison Rabe throws 9 innings of no-hit ball.

Hawai`i Hilo's Madison Rabe threw nine innings without giving up a hit last week, while Jessup's Maddy Ybarra had plenty of hits and knocked in 10 runs to help the Warriors to four wins. Chaminade also won four against conference opponents to gain Team of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jessup's Maddy Ybarra, SS, Jr., 5-7, L/R, Roseville, Calif.                            

Jessup's Maddy Ybarra wins her third PacWest Player of the Week award after another hit-fest during the Warriors' six games against Western Oregon and Azusa Pacific. The junior shortstop went 8-for-18, drove in 10 runs, and scored six times as the Warriors swept the Wolves in a non-conference doubleheader and split with APU. Ybarra drove in five of those runs with a triple and home run in the first game against WOU. She had two triples and three doubles on the week and also stole three bases. On the season, the third-year Warrior is hitting .409, leads the PacWest in stolen bases (34) and is second in runs scored (44), RBI (46) and OPS (.1.264).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo's Madison Rabe, RHP, Jr., 5-3, Waipi`o, Hawai`i                        
Hawai`i Hilo's Madison Rabe threw a no-hitter against Menlo last Monday in Atherton during a 3-0 Vulcan win. She was three walks away from a perfect game and fanned eight Oak batters in improving to 8-2 on the season. The second-year Vulcan needed 131 pitches to get to the finish line for the first no-hitter of her career. She also threw two innings of relief against the Oaks without giving up a hit to give her a total of nine innings of hitless work. On the season, the local product has a 2.90 ERA.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Team of the Week is the Chaminade SilverswordsChaminade went 4-2 during a busy week against Academy of Art and Hawai`i Pacific, winning two of three games against both schools. Pitcher Bailey Benson was a big part of two of those wins, throwing complete game shutouts in both. Against the Urban Knights, she gave up just one hit and and didn't walk a batter, and versus the Sharks she scattered seven hits in gaining the shutout. Vanessa Pena also threw a complete game and gave up just one run. In the final game of the HPU series, the 'Swords rallied back from a six-run deficit for a 9-7 win. They scored seven runs in the fifth inning to cap the largest comeback in school history. 

THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: Action continues today with Academy of Art at Vanguard and Jessup goes to Concordia. Tuesday features a non-conference twinbill with San Francisco State at Dominican, while ART U is at Azusa Pacific for a Wednesday-Thursday series. Friday-Saturday shows a full slate with Menlo at Jessup, Biola at Hawai`i Pacific, Vanguard at Hawai`i Hilo and Dominican at Concordia. PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Biola and Concordia split a big PacWest doubleheader on Saturday, with the Golden Eagles winning the opener 5-4, while the Eagles took the nightcap 3-0. Raquel Reyes threw the shutout for Biola, allowing just four hits while she fanned four. Jessia Im singled home the winning run in the eighth inning of CUI's 5-4 win, one of her two RBI's in the game...The split leaves Concordia in first place with a 16-2 mark, followed by Biola (16-5), Azusa Pacific (14-8), Jessup (12-7), Dominican (13-8) and Hawai`i Hilo (13-11)...There were lots of great pitching performances last week in the PacWest. Menlo's Shelby White was great during a 2-1 win over Hawai`i Hilo, getting the complete game victory...Kayla Vaughan of Academy of Art was super durable in five appearances for the Urban Knights, earning wins with three complete game performances, including a one-hitter during a win over Northwest Nazarene. She had a 1.61 ERA on the week and gave up just 15 hits in 26.1 winnings of work...Hawai`i Pacific's Taylor Thompson had a 7-inning shutout against Chaminade, giving up only three hits...LeeAnne Miranda of Vanguard threw a six-inning one-hitter in a 8-0 win over Academy of Art without issuing a walk and fanning four...Dominican's Taylor Rodriguez gave up just two hits over five innings in a win over Menlo...DUC's Kelissa Lee was 3-for-5 in the doubleheader against the Oaks and drove in five runs...Jessup's Rebekah Beasley went 6-for-11 last week with a .667 OBP.
