Nation's Leading Scorer is PacWest Player of the Year

Westmont's Adrian McIntyre averaged a conference record 27.8 points per game. His Warrior teammate De`Undrae Perteete is the Freshman of the Year, Biola's Davian Brown is the Newcomer of the Year, Hilo's Nadjrick Peat is the Defender of the Year and Point Loma's Justin Downer is the Coach of the Year.

Westmont's Adrian McIntyre led the nation in scoring this year and helped lead his team on a late season surge and a PacWest Tournament berth. His efforts also landed him the PacWest Player of the Year honors from the league's 14 coaches.

McIntyre's teammate De`Undrae Perteete is the Freshman of the Year, Biola's Davian Brown is the Newcomer of the Year, Hawai`i Hilo's Nadjrick Peat is the Defender of the Year, and PacWest Champion Point Loma has the Coach of the Year in Justin Downer.

All five special award winners are in San Rafael today, prepping for this week's Pacific West Conference Championships at Dominican University.

Adrian McIntyre averaged 27.8 points per game this year, tops in NCAA Division II and on pace to set the PacWest single season record. In fact, that 27.8 points is tops in the NCAA across all three levels. McIntyre also set a PacWest mark this year with a 51 point outburst against conference champion Point Loma, and he scored at least 30 points or more eight times this season, including a 40-point performance against second place Biola. The senior, who played in the shadow of his brother Anthony last season, averaing 13.8 points per game, put up incrediable numbers in all stat categories. He led the PacWest in field goal percentage (.560), was second in steals (56), third in assists (104) and fifth in free throw percentage (.791).

On the opposite end of the court is the Defender of the Year, Hawai`i Hilo's Nadjrick Peat. The 6-foot-11 post, who won the same award in 2022-23, had a conference best 64 blocks this year, 22 more than the next player on the list. The native of Jamaica had at least one blocked shot in 25 of 30 games this season, and twice had six blocks in a contest. The third-year Vulcan has 177 career blocks, third all-time in the PacWest.  Peat also averaged 8.4 rebounds a game, second best in the PacWest.

Point Loma won its fourth conference title in a row, directed by second-year coach Justin Downer. The Sea Lions enter the PacWest Championships as the No. 1 seed with a 25-5 overall record, having won 15 of their last 16 games. Downer's squad won the league regular season title with an 18-2 mark and two-game lead over runner-up Biola. Point Loma is currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA West Region, with the opportunity if they hold serve to host the regional tournament. The Sea Lions are also ranked No. 8 and No. 12 in the two nation polls. Downer, who spent one season as a Point Loma assistant before becoming the program leader, has also served as an assistant at Cal Poly SLO and Vanguard. His two-year mark at Point Loma is 46-13.

Biola is the conference runner-up and they come into the PacWest tournament on a tear, having won 11 straight games. One reason for that success is Newcomer of the Year, Davian Brown. Brown, a graduate senior from Lewis-Clark State (ID), averaged 15.4 points a game this year for the Eagles and nailed a league best .892 percent of his free throw attempts. The 6-foot-3 guard drained 52 three-pointers and had 74 assists while starting every game this season for the Eagles. Brown came to Biola as a two-time All-Cascade Conference selection at LC State.

Westmont's De`Undrae Perteete made an immediate impact in his first collegiate season and is the PacWest Freshman of the Year. Perteete started all 26 games of his rookie campaign, averaging 10.8 points per game and 4,8 rebounds. The 6-foot-5 forward from Antioch, Calif. improved his average over the back half of the season nearly every game, helped by a 34-point effort against Azusa Pacific. He shot .783 from the free throw line and had a season best 11 rebounds and seven assists in the same game against Chaminade.

McIntyre is also a First Team All-PacWest pick and Brown is a Second Team selection.

Joining McIntyre on the First Team is Point Loma's Luke Haupt and Zack Paulsen, Biola's Daniel Esparza and Casey Cappo and Menlo's Landon Seaman.

Haupt, who missed all of 2023-24 with an injury, came back this year to help lead the Sea Lions to the conference title. The 6-foot-7 guard averaged 13.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, and was sixth in the conference in assists with 92. He shot 50 percent from the field, 48 percent from three-point range and 71 percent from the free throw line. Haupt was a First Team All-PacWest pick in 2022-23 as a sophomore. Teammate Paulsen also earned his second All-PacWest award, averaging 16.3 points a game (third in the conference). The 6-4 senior guard was fourth in the league in field goal percentage (.497), third in free throw accuracy (.842) and second in three-point percentage (.420).

The Eagle duo of Cappo and Esparza helped lead the Eagles to a 22-6 overall record and current No. 4 regional ranking. Cappo, a 6-7 senior, earns his first All-PacWest award after averaging 15.9 points per game and 5.9 rebounds a contest. He earned PacWest Player of the Week honors after posting 30 points and 14 rebounds during a win over Chaminade. Esparza earns his third All-PacWest honor and his initial First Team selection. The 6-2 senior guard averaged 14.6 points a game and was third in the conference in three-point percentage (.419). He hit for a career high 39 points against Chaminade this year.

Landon Seaman of new PacWest member Menlo rounds out the First Team. Seaman was second in PacWest scoring (19.8) behind the nation's leader McIntyre and was also third in rebouning at 7.2 per contest. He shot 53 percent from the field and had a season best point total versus Vanguard of 30 points.

Included on the All-PacWest Second Team is Concordia's Jaden Henderson, Biola's Brown, Coby Barnes of Point Loma, Isaac Peralta of Fresno Pacific and Academy of Art's Rodney Munson and Isaiah Williams. It is the second All-PacWest honor for Barnes and Munson. Third Team members are Hawai`i Pacific's Joshua West, Julio Montes II and Jake Kosakowski from Hawai`i Hilo, Quintin Metcalf from Academy of Art, Tyce Paulsen from Point Loma and Anthony Tello from Vanguard.
