FRESNO—One record breaking streak continues, another all-time string finally comes to a close.
The
Azusa Pacific Cougars won their ninth straight Pacific West Conference Women’s Track and Field title with an overwhelming 209 points, with host Fresno Pacific second with 143.
The
Fresno Pacific Sunbirds flipped the script on the men’s side, snapping APU’s eight-year run of track titles. Fresno Pacific ran away with the crown with 231 points, followed by the Cougars at 144.
Concordia’s Trey Vergenz was the men’s Outstanding Field Athlete, winning three throwing events (shot put, hammer, discus).
Fresno Pacific’s Shemar Palmer was selected as the men’s Outstanding Track Athlete, winning the 200 and 400 meters, breaking his own PacWest meet record in the one-lap race.
Hannah Richarson of Azusa Pacific was named the women’s Field Athlete of the Meet, winning the hammer, shot put and placing fourth in the discus.
Fresno Pacific’s Brianna Green was voted in as the women’s Track Athlete of the Meet, winning the 400 hurdles in meet record time and finishing second in the 100 hurdles.
WOMEN
Azusa Pacific was the runaway winner with 209 team points, with Fresno Pacific next at 143.
Multi-event athlete
Esther Conde-Turpin compiled 29.50 points for the Cougars, while field event standouts
Hannah Richardson and
Luisa Fischer added 25 points each.
Here are just some of Saturday’s highlights on the women’s side
*Fresno Pacific’s Nydia Chance won the 100 meters and finished second in the 200.
*Alayna Verner of APU won the 400 meters for the third straight year.
*
Olivia Alexandre of APU and
Lina Hanich of Academy of Art both broke the meet record in the 800 meters with times of 2:07.24 and 2:07.26. Hanich also won the 1,500 meters.
*Eliana Saunders (APU) was a repeat winner in the high jump.
MEN
Fresno Pacific zoomed past the field in dominating fashion with 231 points, bypassing perennial champ Azusa Pacific (144).
Chavez Grey finished second in three field events to compile points for the Sunbirds, and
Bryan Banuelos covered distance points for the hosts with a gold medal in the 5,000 meters and a silver in the 10,000.
Here are just a few Saturday highlights for the men
*Dominican’s Adrian Aguirre broke the PacWest meet record twice in the 110 hurdles, blitzing to a first place time of 13.64.
*Westmont’s Senzo Sokhela finished second in both the 800 and 1,500 meters.
*APU’s Jared Wright was third in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
*Jessup’s Gianni Miles was first in the 100 meters and second in the 200.
