Concordia, Azusa Pacific Earn Florida Trips

Golden Eagles and Cougars are on their way to NCAA Nationals after West Region men's Tennis wins.

Concordia will be making its first trip and Azusa Pacific their sixth to the NCAA Division II National Men's Tennis Championships after victories today in the West Regional tournament.

Azusa Pacific defeated Hawaii Pacific 4-0, in a match that was much closer than the score would indicate, while Concordia topped Point Loma 4-1, scoring three singles wins in straight sets along with the doubles point.

By winning their NCAA West Regional matches, the Cougars and Golden Eagles will represent the West Region at the NCAA National Championships in Sanlando Park on May 20-24. There will be a total of 16 teams in the draw for the national title.

The Cougars are now 23-4, while Hawai`i Pacific closes its season with a 9-8 record. Concordia, winning its first-ever NCAA tournament match, is 20-3 while Point Loma ends its season at 13-7.

Azusa Pacific shut out the Sharks, but five of the six singles matches played went into the third set. In the end, David James Brownlee and then Soeren Grandke both came back from down a set in a pair of matches that mirrored each other to clinch the Cougars' fourth-consecutive NCAA West Regional victory.

This will be APU's tenth overall trip to the round of 16.
