Sea Lions Sting Yellowjackets, 5-0

Point Loma stays alive to advance to Saturday championship game against Northwest Nazarene

NAMPA, Idaho--A little over 24 hours after suffering one of their worst losses of the season, a 15-7 setback to Montana State Billings, Point Loma shut down that same Yellowjacket squad during a 5-0 advancement win on Friday night at Elmer W. Vail Field.

The Sea Lions not only avenged that tournament opening loss, they eliminated MSUB and set up a winner take all game on Saturday against No. 1 seed and host Northwest Nazarene.

Just yesterday, the Sea Lions gave up 15 runs against No. 5 seed Montana State Billings. Today, three Point Loma pitchers combined to shutout the Yellowjackets, scattering eight hits without walking a batter. Branden Jackel was the starter and went 5.2 innings (seven hits, four K's) and was followed by Christian Williams (2.1 IP, 1 hit) and Michael Sarhatt (one inning, no hits).

Offensively, seven different Sea Lions laced eight hits. Jake Schwartz had two of those hits and drove in two runs with a double in the fifth. Josiah Rodriguez had an RBI-single that same inning. Aiden Arriaga and Jake Entrekin drove in runs in the third inning.

The Sea Lions and Nighthawks are scheduled to meet at 6 pm MT (5 PT) on Saturday, weather permitting. Point Loma bounced back from their loss to Montana State Billings on Thursday with a 20-6 win over NNU later in the day. The two squads will be playing for the right to advance to the NCAA West Region Super Regional, a best two-of-three series against either Westmont or CS Monterey Bay.

Point Loma is now 39-16 on the year, while the Yellowjackets close 2025 at 33-21.
