Shubin and Carr Help Biola's Program Leave on a High Note

Claire Shubin is the PacWest Golfer of the Year and Jane Carr is the Coach of the Year. Menlo's Rori Fanning is selected as the Freshman of the Year.

It is somewhat fitting, that in the final season of the Biola University women’s golf program, one of the top golfers in conference history and one of the PacWest’s most decorated coaches ring out the year with awards.

Recognized in the annual vote of the conference coaches, Biola’s Claire Shubin was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year and BU’s Jane Carr was selected as the PacWest Coach of the Year. Menlo’s Rori Fanning was honored as the PacWest Freshman of the Year.

Claire Shubin enjoyed a long successful career as Dominican’s top golfer and then in 2024-25 wrapped up her collegiate days with a PacWest team championship at Biola. She finished tenth at the PacWest Championships in North Las Vegas, her fourth Top 10 conference placing in her career, tied for first all-time with Academy of Art’s Anahi Servin.

Shubin was the PacWest medalist in 2022, and this year finished third at the Jack Brown, fourth at both the HPU and Pioneer Shootouts and was fifth at national champion Dallas Baptist’s tournament. She finished with a 75.5 scoring average in 2025 and is ranked 29th in the NCAA West Region.

Her coach, Jane Carr, won her third PacWest Coach of the Year honor. Carr directed the Eagles to their third PacWest title in the last four years, this time winning the crown by a whopping 20 shots. Since 2018, Biola’s first year in the PacWest, the Eagles never finished lower than third at the conference tournament.

Carr’s Eagles finished their final round at the NCAA West Region Championships in one of the best ways possible with a sizzling round of 286, moving up seven slots to finish ninth in the toughest women’s golf region in the country.

Menlo’s Rori Fanning was selected by the league’s coaches as the Freshman of the Year. Fanning made a big splash at the PacWest Championships with an opening round 69 to lead the entire field. She settled at eighth place overall with a +6 scorecard for the tournament.

Fanning finished with a 76.2 stroke average in her rookie season, tops in the PacWest for a freshman. She had second place finishes at the PCH Fall Invitational and Vanguard Fall Cup, was fourth at CLU’s tourney and seventh at Sonoma.

Fanning landed as a Second Team All-PacWest honoree and Shubin was a First Team choice, the fifth time she has earned the honor. The three All-PacWest teams are based strictly on the final Clippd rankings of 2025.

Shubin’s teammates Melanie Reyes and Theresa Shaw are both First Team members, their second All-PacWest honor. Westmont’s Hannah Camara is also on the First Team, as is Menlo’s Holly Obermuller, who had the league’s top stroke average at 75.3.

Third Team selections Lily Landt (Hawaii Pacific) and Rachel Shaw (Biola) landed on the all-conference team for the fourth time and Shuiyen He (HPU) earned her second honor.
