PUEBLO, Colo.--Fresno Pacific's Brianna Green helped the Sunbirds climb to new heights on the final day of the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships at the ThunderBowl on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Green set a personal best in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.88 to win gold, ran the second leg on FPU's 4x100 relay team for a meet and D2 record time of 43.85, and anchored the 4x400 relay squad to a third place finish in 3:33.12, another school record for the Sunbirds.
That helped vault Fresno Pacific to a fourth place finish at the national championships with 35 team points, tied with West Texas A&M.
Green and the Sunbirds were just part of the story involving Pacific West Conference athletes on Saturday, the final day of the NCAA Championships.
WOMEN
*Brianna Green won the 400 hurdles by nearly a second over second place Kylie Ray of Findley (OH) with a time of 56.88. That is an all-time best time for the Florida native. Her teammate
Avril Mendoza finished fourth in the same race with a personal best time of 58.90.
*Biola's Eboselulu Omofoma placed third in the same 400 hurdle race with a personal best time of 58.80, giving the PacWest three of the top four finishers. That also gave the Eagles their first Division II track and field All-American.
*The Sunbird 4x100 relay team kicked off the day with a scorching time of 43.85, a meet and D2 record.
Nydia Chance, Green, Sariyah Copeland and
Shaniya Randolph ran the one-lap race in record time, just clippng CSU San Bernardino (43.94).
*Fresno Pacific ended the day with a third place finish in the 4x400 relay in 3:33.12, giving Green three trips to the podium. That Sunbird foursome set a personal best with Copeland, Randolph,
Kenahdi Haslip and Green.
*
Azusa Pacific's Hannah Richardson placed second in the shot with a heave of 52-11 1/2 (16.14). Katherine Higgins of host CSU-Pueblo won the event with a personal best of 53-9.
*Olivia Alexandre (Azusa Pacific) and
Lina Hanich (Academy of Art) finished fourth and fifth in the 800 meters with the exact same time of 2:06.38 to earn All-American honors.
*FPU's
Sariyah Copeland placed fifth in the 200 meters (23.13).
*Grand Valley State won the women's team championship with 60 points.
Fresno Pacific was fourth (35),
Azusa Pacific was 13th (21 points),
Concordia and
Biola tied for 35th with six points and
Academy of Art finished with four team points.
MEN
*Fresno Pacific's Shemar Palmer took to the podium for third and fourth place finishes on the final day of the D2 national championships. The junior from Jamaica ran a personal best of 45.57 in the 400 meters to earn the bronze, finishing just behind the winner Nate Watson of Pittsburg State (45.32). Palmer then crossed the line fourth in the 200 meters in 20.63 for a pair of All-American performances.
*FPU's Malachi Carrasco also earned a third place finish for the Sunbirds in the high jump with a bar crossing of 7-0 1/2 (2.15). The freshman from Selma, Calif., who broke the Fresno Pacific school record with the leap, finished just a bit behind the winner, Jaivon Harrison of Grand Valley State (7-1 3/4).
*Academy of Art went out with a bang in their final race with a fourth place finish in the 4x400 relay. The Urban Knights recorded a time of 3:06.32 to earn All-American status for
Tre'Sean Bouie, Robin Black, Tariq Dacres and
Josh Marlin.
*Fresno Pacific's Dejan Mileusnic placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 228-11 (69.79).
*Dominican's Adrian Aguirre was seventh in the 110 hurdles in 14.03 to earn the Penguins' second-ever All-American honor.
*ART U's Robin Black placed eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 50.91.
*Pittsburg State (KS) won the men's team title with 111 points.
Fresno Pacific was 11th with 20 points.
Academy of Art was 20th (11th) and
Azusa Pacific was 27th with eight points.
