Sunbirds Win Trio of Men's Track and Field Awards

Fresno Pacific won the 2025 PacWest title and also claim three year-end awards. Azusa Pacific and Biola track and field standouts are also honored.

The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds dominated the 2025 Pacific West Conference Championships, snapping Azusa Pacific’s eight-year run of titles with an 87-point victory on their own track.

The Sunbirds also won the majority of the annual Men’s PacWest Track and Field awards, voted on by the conference’s coaches. Shemar Palmer repeated as the Track Athlete of the Year, Robert Foster is the Coach of the Year and Malachi Carrasco was tabbed as the Field Freshman of the Year.

Azusa Pacific’s Linclon Krog was named the Field Athlete of the Year and the Track Freshman of the Year goes to Joshua Widdows of Biola.

Shemar Palmer was a co-winner of the award last year and added the title again to his impressive career in 2025. He was also named the PacWest Track Athlete of the Meet for the second straight year, after winning the 200 and 400 meters. The Jamaican set a PacWest meet record in the one-lap race in 45.77 and blitzed the 200 in 20.69.

Additionally, he helped the Sunbirds win the 4x100 relay and place third in the 4x400. At the NCAA Championships, Palmer finished third in the 400 (45.57) and fourth in the 200 (20.63). The 400 meter time was a personal best for the senior.

FPU leader Robert Foster earned Coach of the Year honors in his first year at the helm. The Sunbirds dominated the PacWest Championships with the third largest margin of victory in the meet’s history with 231 points to APU’s 144.

Foster’s team matched a program best 11th place finish at the NCAA National Championships. The Sunbirds finished the season with eighteen (men and women) Sunbirds earning USTFCCCA All-Region Honors and 17 (men and women) All-Americans. Previously, Foster had been an assistant at Fresno Pacific since 2015 under now Director of Track Field Ray Winter.

The Sunbirds made it a trifecta of PacWest awards with Malachi Carrasco’s honor as Freshman Field Athlete of the Year. The Selma, Calif. native surprised the NCAA Championship field with a third place finish in the high jump, earning the bronze with a leap of 7-0 ½ (2.15). Carrasco was seeded 19th coming into the meet. Earlier, Carrasco won the PacWest Championships in the high jump (6-8) and was third in the triple jump (14.51).

Azusa Pacific’s Lincoln Krog capped a brilliant career with the Cougars by being named the PacWest Field Athlete of the Year. The graduate finished second at the NCAA Championships in the decathlon, tallying a personal best 7,607 points. He finished just 32 points shy of national champion Hunter Jones of Pittsburg State (Kan.). Krog's score makes him the first Cougar since Olympic gold medalist Bryan Clay to surpass the 7,600-point mark.

The Washington native also compiled 29 teams points at the PacWest Championships, earning a third place mark in the long jump, fourth in the pole vault, sixth in the javelin and sixth in the high jump.

The Freshman Track Athlete of the Year is Biola’s Joshua Widdows. Widdows set a number of Biola school records both indoors and outdoors, including a time of 14.30 in the 110 hurdles and 51.15 in the 400 hurdles. He won the Stanford Invitational in the oval hurdle race. Despite a hamstring injury suffered at the PacWest Championships, he still qualified and competed at the NCAA Championships in the 400 hurdles.

The annual PacWest Track and Field awards are voted on by the conference’s coaches, and take into account the entirety of the 2025 season.
