Urban Knights 13th, Biola 18th After Opening Round

At the NCAA West Region Women's Golf Championships, Academy of Art and Biola have some ground to make up.

AMARILLO, Tex.--Academy of Art sits in 13th place and Biola is 18th after the first 18 holes of the NCAA West Region Women's Golf Championships at the Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo.

The Urban Knights, an at-large entry, turned in a +37 scorecard on the first of the three-day event. They are just a shot back of 11th place Colorado State-Pueblo and 12th place Lubbock Christian. Biola, the Pacific West Conference Champion sits at +43. 

Cal State Los Angeles is the first day team leader at +21, followed by Dallas Baptist and Texas A&M International at +24.

ART U's Meritzell Illamola led all conference golfers in the field after shooting a 78. Teammate Jannel Calixterio is next at 80. Biola was led by Rachel Shaw (80) and Theresa Shaw (81). 

Dominican's Ellexis Mingming, an at-large entry, shot 80 on the first day.

The teams and Mingming will tee again on Tuesday, with the first PacWest players heading to the tee box at 7:40 a.m. Central time.
