Fresno Pacific University track and field standout
Brianna Green had a box full of trophies and plaques to pack up when she left campus this month.
The next one will come in the mail to the senior graduate and is one of the most prestigious of all. Green has been selected by the conference athletic directors as the Pacific West Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Green is the first Fresno Pacific student-athlete to win this award and is the third straight track and field scholar to capture the honor (see complete list below).
The Florida native's athletic accomplishments are unpresidented at Fresno Pacific and she also has some of the top accomplishments in the history of the PacWest. This season, she earned the PacWest Female Athlete of the Year award across all sports, was named the PacWest Women's Track Athlete of the Year and the Women's USTFCCCA West Region Track Athlete of the Year.
At the PacWest Championships, Green earned Women's Track Athlete of the Meet after medaling in four events, including a first-place finish in the in the 400m hurdles where she defended her title and set a new PacWest Championship meet record. At the NCAA DII National Championships, Green and her teammates won the National Championship in the 4x100 relay, breaking the DII record and Fresno Pacific school record with a time of 43.85. Green followed up that performance with an individual National Championship in the 400 meter hurdles, running a personal best and school record time of 56.88, the sixth best mark in the history of Division II.
Off the track, she earned her degree in Psychology and worked on her master's this year in the same area. This past season she has been an assistant track and field coach at Kingsburg High School, about 20 minutes south of Fresno, instructing the hurdlers and helping to inspire them and boost their confidence. She coached at practice three days/week this entire season.
After transferring from the College of the Redwoods two years ago, Brianna is the first person from her family to graduate with a four-year degree.
"I’m incredibly honored to be named the PacWest Scholar-Athlete of the Year," Green said. "This award means so much to me, not just as an athlete, but as a student who has worked tirelessly both on and off the track. Coming from a family where I’m the first to graduate with a college degree, let alone two, I’m beyond proud to hold an AA in Communications and a BA in Psychology."
Green was selected over a talented and smart crew of Scholar Athletes of the Year by Sport, including
Jessica Kampman Walczak (Azusa Pacific cross country),
Taylor Rodriguez (Dominican softball),
Letizia Cammillucci (Chaminade volleyball),
Audrey Rafols (Domincan tennis),
Alli McDonald (Point Loma basketball),
Ellexis Mingming (Dominican golf) and
Jaci Maze (Azusa Pacific soccer).
