Biola Wins Two, Cougars, Penguins and Golden Eagles Unbeaten on Week

Eagles top Gators and Lumberjacks with Rechin leading the offense. Hilo's Lydia Keller leads a stout Vulcan defense that gave up only one goal in three matches.

Biola was the only two-win club on the week, claiming Team of the Week honors with victories over San Francisco State and Cal Poly Humboldt and a tie with CS San Bernardino. Marije Rechin led the Eagles with a goal and three assists for Player of the Week. Hawaii Hilo's Lydia Keller was a stopper for the Vulcans, allowing just one goal in three matches with 16 total saves for Defender of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Biola's Marije Rechin, D, Sr., 5-4, Santa Rosa, Calif.                                                    
Biola's Marije Rechin made her first goal of the season and assisted on three teammate strikes to help the Eagles to a 2-0-1 mark last week. In a 2-1 win over San Francisco State, she had a foot in both scores, getting the Eagles on board in the 23rd minute with the first score of the match. She then assisted Peyton Nelson with the match winner in the 68th minute. The senior followed that with assists in the 1-0 win over Cal Poly Humboldt and 2-2 tie with CS San Bernardino. Rechin, a four-year starter and 2024 Third Team All-PacWest selection, leads the PacWest currently with three assists.
 
DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: Hawai`i Hilo's Lydia Keller, GK, Soph., 5-4, Idaho Falls, Idaho                            
Hawaii Hilo's Lydia Keller had a busy week in goal as the Vulcans played two matches in northern California and then jetted home for one more on Sunday. The Idaho native had five and seven saves respectively in 0-0 ties against CS Monterey Bay and Stanislaus State, and then gave up her first goal of the season in the 83rd minute in a 1-0 loss to Westminster (Utah) but had four saves. The former Idaho State player has 18 saves in four matches (0.947 average) and has three shutouts. 

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Biola Eagles                                                                                                                        
Biola is the Team of the Week recording a pair of wins and a tie against CCAA teams. Marije Rechin (see above) and Briley Phelps provided a big chunk of the offense on the week and Autum Monty was stellar in the goal as the Eagles improved to 2-1-1 on the season. Rechin had an assist in each match as BU defeated San Francisco State (2-1) and Cal Poly Humboldt (1-0) and reached a tie with CS San Bernardino (2-2). Phelps totaled two goals and an assist in the three matches. Phelps and Nelson scored twice in the second half against CSUSB to rally the Eagles back from a 2-0 halftime deficit. Phelps had the lone goal against the Lumberjacks. In the goal, Monty had five saves and in the shutout versus CPH and totaled 13 saves on the week. 

PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Azusa Pacific, Dominican and Concordia each went 1-0-1 on the week. The Cougars were impressive with a 1-0 win over CS San Bernardino and a 0-0 tie with CS Dominguez Hills (RV in national poll). Goalkeeper Alexia Muniz didn't allow a score all week and totaled five saves...The Golden Eagles beat CSU Dominguez Hills and tied CS San Marcos, with Elle Soleau tallying a pair of goals including the game winner against the Toros...The Penguins smashed St. Martin's (6-0) and tied CS Monterey Bay (1-1) with Megan Clapinski contributing a pair of goals. Goalkeeper Michele Salas Viniegra gave up just one goal in two matches and had 10 saves...Last week's Defender of the Week Skylar Jacobsen of Hawaii Pacific had a nine-save shutout against San Francisco State.

LOOKING AHEAD: More non-conference matches are on tap this week, 17 to be exact. PacWest teams will travel to and host CCAA and RMAC teams before diving into some conference play the following week.  To see the complete list, click here.
