Eagles Sweep Cougars, Golden Eagles Win Three of Four

Biola is the Team of the Week after a twinbill taking against rival Azusa Pacific. Concordia wins three of four at Jessup, and Hawaii Hilo's Santos throws a complete game one-hitter at Chaminade.

Biola won a rivalry doubleheader against Azusa Pacific to notch a pair of PacWest victories. Concordia went 3-1 against Jessup behind the bat of Morgan Kneubuhler and Hawaii Hilo’s Janessa Santos shut down Chaminade with a one-hit shutout.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Concordia’s Morgan Kneubuhler, C, Jr., 5-10, R/R, Chino Hills, Calif.    

Concordia’s Morgan Kneubuhler hit four home runs and drove in eight during CUI’s three wins in four tries at Jessup. Kneubuhler also went 6-for-15 (.400) in the four games in Lincoln and scored five times. The Mt. Sac College transfer did her damage in the final two games of the series, blasting two home runs in back-to-back games, going 4-for-5 in the first game with five RBI and 2-for-4 in the second with three runs batted in. The Golden Eagle catcher is now hitting .404 on the season with 20 RBI and six home runs.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Hawaii Hilo’s Janessa Santos, RHP, Soph., 5-9, Moreno Valley, Calif.    
Hawaii Hilo’s Janessa Santos tossed a beauty in just her third start in a Vulcan uniform. The Pacific University transfer threw a complete-game, 7-inning shutout against rival Chaminade, allowing just one hit, one walk and she fanned seven. She gave up just one second inning single and wrapped up the contest on a tidy 83 pitches. She induced four flyouts and ten ground outs, including three right back to her. Santos is now 2-0 on the season with a 1.78 ERA.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Team of the Week is the Biola Eagles. Coach Kristin Halte’s team jumped out to a 2-0 conference start with 4-1 and 8-3 victories over rival Azusa Pacific in a battle of conference tournament teams from a year ago. In the pitcher’s circle Kayla Bousquette tossed a gem in the 4-1 win, going all seven innings and allowing one run, five hits with a pair of strikeouts. The bats swung big as well, led by Kendall Nakano’s 4-for 6 day with three RBI, Alexa Medley Sheard’s 4-for-6 twinbill and Lillianna Garcia’s two doubles and 4 RBI in the first game. The Eagles improved to 7-7 overall with the pair of victories.

THIS WEEK IN THE PACWEST: A mix of non-conference and PacWest games are on the schedule this week. Today and tomorrow (Monday-Tuesday), Concordia is at Menlo for four games. On Wednesday, the Golden Eagles will play at CSU East Bay. On Friday-Saturday, Biola will play neutral site games against Cal Poly Humboldt, same for Menlo against Central Washington and CSU San Marcos in Tracy, Calif.  Also on Friday-Saturday, Concordia is at Dominican and Jessup is at Hilo. PACWEST NEWS AND NOTES: Rain was one of the big winners this week regarding the PacWest softball schedule, with a number of games getting postponed and rescheduled…In CUI’s series win at Jessup, Kailani Tatro went 6-for-11 with three home runs and five RBI, and Paetynn Snobar pitched the final game of the series, a 4-1 win where she tossed seven innings and gave up just two hits and one run, while fanning seven…Jessup’s Evangelina Chavarria picked up the Warriors’ lone win in the pitching circle, going six innings and allowing only one run, five hits, no walks and she struck out four in the 3-2 Warrior win…In the Chaminade victory (split in doubleheader with Hilo), Summer Buck went 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.
