Sea Lions Second in NCAA MBB Ranking

In the first official NCAA ranking, Point Loma is No. 2 behind unbeaten CSU East Bay. Westmont makes the list at No. 8 and Hawaii Pacific is ninth.

INDIANAPOLIS--The Point Loma men's basketball team has already won the Pacific West Conference regular season title, and now they have another basketball reason to celebrate.

The Sea Lions are listed No. 2 in the first NCAA Division II West Region ranking, only behind unbeaten CSU East Bay. That listing virtually assures the PacWest champs a slot in the NCAA tournament, which will be held the second week of March. First, is the PacWest Championship tournament next week in San Diego.

Westmont checks in at No. 8 in this week's poll and Hawaii Pacific is No. 9.

The winner of the PacWest tournament receives an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament, as does the winner from the California Collegiate Athletic Association and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, but this list will determine the other five spots.

There will be one more ranking next Wednesday (March 4), and then after the conference tournaments are completed, the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night (March 8) will reveal the entire field.

Here is today's ranking (Feb. 25), with overall records listed through Sunday, Feb. 22.
