PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s Lillianna Garcia, DP/RHP, Jr., 5-6, Hanford, Calif.
Biola’s Lillianna Garcia hit the ball at a .643 clip during five games last week for the Eagles (9-for-14). The junior designated player drove in 11 runs in those games with four doubles and a home run. She went 3-for-3 with five RBI in the APU doubleheader second game. The CSU Dominguez Hills transfer lifted her average from .308 to .367 over the week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Biola’s DJ Symons, LHP/1B, Sr., 5-9, Seattle, Wash.
Biola’s DJ Symons was terrific as a starter and out of the bullpen for the Eagles in four appearances last week. The left-hander went 3-0 with a save and didn’t allow walk in 20.1 innings of work. The Seattle native had a complete game shutout against Azusa Pacific with a four-hitter, and threw three perfect innings for a save in another win over the Cougars. Symons gave up 12 hits, 13 strikeouts and had a 1.39 ERA. On the season, the senior is 11-4 with a 2.82 ERA.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: The PacWest Team of the Week is the
Biola Eagles. The Eagles swept four games from Chaminade and took two from Azusa Pacific to improve to 17-4 in PacWest play and 24-15 overall. Coach
Kristin Halte’s team has now won ten games in a row.
DJ Symons was terrific all week in the pitcher’s circle, and
Kayla Bousquette threw a complete game shutout in a 5-0 win against APU, scattering seven hits on 107 pitches to improve to 11-3 on the year.

Mari Ipatzi earned the win in three of those games, including a five inning three-hit shutout against the Silverswords…

Maliyah Lawson hit .529 in the four games (9-17), which included a grand slam, six RBI and five stolen bases. In the pitcher’s circle,

Lela Yslava pitched all 11 innings in the Oaks 4-3 win over San Francisco State. She gave up the three runs but allowed just four hits…The unbalanced schedule makes it a little more difficult to chart the standings, but seven teams have .500 or better records in a battle for the top four spots.
